Release date
Episode 1 of ‘The Oprah Conversation’ will air on Thursday, July 30, at 7 p.m. ET only on Apple TV+. Reportedly, however, ‘The Oprah Conversation’ will not be regularly scheduled. According to TV Line, episode 2 of the talk show will air Friday, August 7.
Premise
In June 2018, Apple announced a multi-year content partnership with Winfrey, where she would create new original programs exclusively for Apple TV+. The first show under the deal, ‘Oprah's Book Club’, premiered in November 2019. The second show under the deal, ‘Oprah talks COVID-19’, debuted in March. ‘The Oprah Conversation’ is part of that same partnership.
According to Apple TV+, on ‘The Oprah Conversation’, the noted American talk show host and actor will lead intimate discussions with “today’s foremost newsmakers, thought leaders, and masters of their craft”. In the talk show, these guests and the host will bring “truth and perspective” to a range of topics shaping the world, and they will reveal “gripping stories of human connection”. Episodes will be filmed remotely and will reportedly feature audience engagement.
Winfrey tweeted on Monday, July 27, “It’s time to bring humanity back to the conversation. Tune in to my new show #TheOprahConversation, where I’ll be joined by fascinating guests to have conversations that unite us -- not divide us.”
In episode 1, ‘How to Be an Antiracist’, Winfrey and best-selling author of books like ‘How to Be An Antiracist’, ‘ STAMPED: Racism, Antiracism, and You’, and more, Ibram X. Kendi, will talk with White readers who confront their own racist beliefs.
Episode 2 will reportedly feature former linebacker who played in the National Football League and host of ‘Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man’ Emmanuel Acho. It will reportedly be a two-part interview that will discuss his web series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Equal Justice Initiative founder Bryan Stevenson, whose story inspired the film ‘Just Mercy’, will also be a guest on a future episode.
