'The Mandalorian': Director Dave Filoni says it's okay to call the tot 'Baby Yoda' since it's all part of the mystery

'The Mandalorian' has been one of Disney Plus' shows that has been a topic of discussions since its premiere. Currently making waves on social media and Television is 'Baby Yoda'. Some fans have not exactly taken a liking to the term as Yoda cannot possibly be a child owing to the 'Star Wars' timeline. However, Dave Filoni, the director of the pilot episode, said it was totally fine to call the little cute thing Baby Yoda.

In an interview with Ash Crossan on Entertainment Tonight, Filoni said: "It's funny because, like, people are writing articles and they're like, 'Baby Yoda — because I don't know what else to say,'" Crossan said. "They don't know yet. That's fine," Filoni said. "All part of the mystery." He added that “Baby Yoda” is “very clear".

At the moment, there is no official name for the character, but fans have taken to calling it 'Baby Yoda' as it is the same species as the renowned 'Star Wars' character. Timeline-wise, it isn't actually a baby since Yoda died in 'Return of the Jedi', much before the events of 'The Mandalorian'.

In fact, before the release of ‘The Mandalorian’, only two members of the species have been shown to exist—Yoda, and Yaddle—both of whom have been Jedi masters. This is significant as there’s a high likelihood that the baby may grow up to be a powerful wielder of the Force. This would explain why the bounty was placed on the baby’s head. If the Empire seeks to make a resurgence, the baby would certainly be a threat to that plan.

The next episode of ‘The Mandalorian’ will air November 22, on Disney+.
