'The Flash' Season 6 Episode 11 Review: Amunet and Iris steal the show with Pat Benatar's romantic single
Spoiler alert for 'The Flash' Season 6 Episode 11 'Love is a Battlefield'
Call this the most bizarre episode in Season 6. There's enough intrigue, but 'Love is a Battlefield' is heavily masked by a veil of emotions. And while we're talking about intrigue, let's also call this the tale of two Irises.
Candice Patton has been a pivotal character in 'The Flash' since the series' inception and after largely playing second fiddle in Season 6's pre-'Crisis' storyline, she makes the last episode and the present one all about herself. There's some help coming in, in the form of Eva McCulloch's Mirror Master (Efrat Dor).
While Dor is still yet to make an appearance, her sinister (at the moment) strategy is plain and simple as she traps Iris in a mirror and takes her place in Barry's life. With Valentine's Day around the corner, the setting shifts to the couple making plans, with a bit of help from Amazon's Alexa.
Perhaps the biggest and the best storyline has to be Katee Sackhoff making her way back to the show as Amunet. Last mentioned in Season 5, the fast-talking, formidable foe is back with some major changes and we can blame the multiverse for it.
She's broken up with fellow partner and boyfriend, Goldface (Damion Poitier) and now wants to make a mark in Central City, all on her own. Adding to her advantage is the fact she knows that Barry is the Flash and Iris is his wife.
The plotline is rather simple: A rare plant has been shipped into the city and Amunet wants it for herself. There's a bunch of stolen tech that's connected to the plant, and it's about her walking off with the plant, even if it means stopping Goldface, who's her bitter rival now.
'Love is a Battlefield' is themed on Valentine's Day and it doesn't disappoint when we see the Pat Benatar classic, 'Love is a Battlefield', playing out loud when Barry manages to burn the plant.
The pollen when breathed induces romantic feelings. You can guess what comes next when Amunet and Goldface inhale the fumes.
The Harrison Nash Wells-Allegra (Tom Cavanagh and Kayla Compton) connection is finally revealed. Allegra was his daughter on his Earth. The reveal had a layer of emotion to it and a storyline involving Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker).
Sackhoff and Patton make the episode all about them and in a way that comes in as a sense of comfort. The Carlos Valdes' Cisco-less episode needed something fresh and the two ladies spearheading this chapter makes it a worthwhile watch.
It also makes sense to see Barry, not in the center of things as the episodes before 'Crisis' was all about the Scarlet Speedster's impending death.
There are a few unexplained plot twists. What we do know from the preview images and synopsis of the upcoming episode is the entry of Sue Dearbon and the first reveal of Dor's Mirror Master. Until then, it's a bit of a wait.
