'The End of the F***ing World' Season 3: Channel 4 boss claims their door is open, but fans worry James and Alyssa's story is done

When Season 1 finale was aired, fans had been vocal about how the show was brave and perfect in its ending, and that it did not need another season.

The fans of 'The End of the F***ing World' had been assuming since the Season 2 finale that there are no more stories to be told about Alyssa (Jessica Barden), James (Alex Lawther), and their new friend Bonnie (Naomi Ackie), especially after the show's writer Charlie Covell revealed: “I don’t think you’re going to get another series."

However, giving us new hope for the show is Channel 4 director of programs Ian Katz, who revealed to Deadline that if Covell were to write another season, Channel 4 is more than willing to produce it.

Revealing that 'The End of the F***ing World' is Channel 4’s most-binged show ever, Katz said that the show provides “deeply relatable and relevant to a British audience" and that Covell can keep working on the show for "as long as she likes”.

“I think she might take a breather doing something else for a while, but she’s a classic writer,” he said.

When Season 1 finale was aired, fans had been vocal about how the show was brave and perfect in its ending, and that it did not need another season. The mere existence of a Season 2 would bring down the value of the first season, expressed some. And yet, the new set of episodes, which was released in 2019, proved the critics wrong.

As a fan puts it, "Loved the first season. Was opposed to a 2nd. Now feel stupid, because I actually like the 2nd more than the 1st. If the creative team can come up with anything close to the level of either season, I'm all for it."

However, there are still others who believe that Alyssa and James' story is done with and that if the creators were to add anything new, it would be nothing more than a rehashing of what has already been told. And, we belong to the category of fans who seems to believe: "People had the same feeling when they announced Season 2. I think they did a good job making it a new thing with a reason to exist. I’m willing to give the creator the benefit of the doubt."

Now, all we need is for Covell to say yes to writing a new storyline for James and Alyssa, possibly one involving Bonnie as well.
