Spoilers for 'The Bold Type' Season 4 Episode 11 'Leveling Up'

Freeform's fan-favorite series 'The Bold Type' returned with the second half of its fourth season earlier tonight and we weren't disappointed one bit.

We meet Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens) – now recovering from her double mastectomy. An emotional montage displays the physical and mental challenges she has to face after coming back from the hospital. Ryan Decker (Dan Jeannotte), who she broke up with at the end of the previous episode (virtually) drops in to say hello and check up on her. But we know very well that when Jane sets her mind on something, she sees through it. And now, she is not going back to the person who cheated on her.

In this episode, Jane has it really hard. At work, she has a difficult time focussing and disconnecting from her current situation, and rightly so. The editorial duties for her new vertical require more than the usual amount of focus but Jane finds herself distracted. There is also another thing that is occupying her professionally – getting into an exclusive women-only club, Belle.

During Jane's recovery period, her best friends Kat Edison (Alisha Dee) and Sutton Brady-Hunter (Meghann Fahy) are close by her side, helping her through the basics of everyday life. When not helping Jane out, Kat spends her time protesting against inhumane activities like animal cruelty. Always the political changemaker, Kat might have been fired from Scarlet magazine last season, but that is not going to stop her from trying to bring about a change. She also seems to be in an intimate relationship, but the nature of her relationship is not delved into so maybe we will know more going forward.

In Episode 11, Kat also receives an ultimatum from her parents to find a job to pay the mortgage or move out. While Kat does find a job, the terms and conditions dictate that she cannot make any political statements publicly. Taken aback, Kat finds herself in a dilemma. At the same time, there is a constant worry that she might not find a new job given her past record. So, what is her best choice now?

On the other hand, Sutton goes back to work as a stylist but finds herself sick throughout – all pointing to the possibility that she might be pregnant. This predicts a bit of a difficult phase for her as she would struggle with professional and personal expectations.

With the return of 'The Bold Type', the Freeform show showed that the girls are climbing up the ladder. Despite hurdles and complications, Jane, Kat and Sutton have come a long way. And with 'Leveling Up', they prove that they still have miles to go. With the personal pulling at the professional, this might be one of the most intense seasons of the comedy-drama.

'The Bold Type' airs on Thursdays at 10 PM ET/PT on Freeform.
