'The Batman' may release only in 2021, but that hasn't stopped interesting bits of news from trickling in about the film and the characters. When Matt Reeves announced his plans about the movie, speculations were rife that the Robert Pattinson-starrer was inspired by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's 'The Long Halloween'. The comic has been one of DC's best-selling editions since its release.

This only intensified when Jeffrey Wright, who essays Jim Gordon in the film, took to Instagram where he posted an image of him holding a copy of 'The Long Halloween' in his hand. On his part, Reeves had previously said the film would borrow from a number of comics, which had fans talking about which comics would be included. In a recent development, Zoe Kravitz, speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, revealed some details about her preparation to play Selina Kyle/ Catwoman in the film.

The actor said she read 'Year One' to prepare for her role. "I've been reading the Year One comic," Kravitz said. "It’s great, it’s super badass." 'Batman: Year One' follows the plotline where Selina is inspired by Bruce Wayne/Batman to don a costume of her own and starting her journey as Catwoman, making her name at committing theft of high-profile accessories. Initially, the character is mistaken for being Batman's partner on protecting Gotham, and this leads to the duo coming together in 'The Long Halloween'. This update just goes on to prove Reeves's statement of the film taking its elements from multiple comics is indeed true and the storylines from the two comics can be observed. Another classic example to prove this is Pattinson's new Batsuit look.

The design was previously seen in Scott Snyder's 'Batman: Zero Year' storyline, which featured a younger Batman just like the movie. There's that same homemade feel to the design but with a bit more sleekness to it. But with all that said, the crowning glory of the new design is the symbol. For the first time ever, the Bat symbol isn't just a logo, it's got a hard metallic look that suggests that it may have been crafted out of the parts of the gun that killed Thomas and Martha Wayne. On the production front, the film, which was being shot in the UK was called off after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. Details of the film's production resuming are yet to be revealed.

'The Batman' is slated to release in October 2021.
