The nominations for the 63rd Grammys were announced on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. Just like every year, there were a few surprises and a few snubs as well. While R&B icon The Weeknd slammed the Recording Academy for completely ignoring his much-celebrated 2020 album ‘After Hours’, American singer-songwriter Teyana Taylor also lashed out at the Grammys for all-male nominations in the Best R&B Album category.

The 29-year-old crooner took to Twitter to tackle the issue and posted about how pissed off she was seeing all the male nods in the Best R&B Album category. “Y’all was better off just saying best MALE R&B ALBUM cause all I see is d**k in this category.”

The Internet was quick to react to the singer’s tweet where some of the fans supported her while some also opposed her social media post. One user said, “No disrespect, but no I don't think teyana taylor should win grammy for best R&B album but her album was definitely good enough to get nominated. You see how many of these other unoriginal artist getting noms with underwhelming music so it isn't bout she hasn't “found her sound.”

Another said, “What? I can’t name 3 songs off 2 Teyana Taylor albums , neither can anyone else in my family I’ll bet all my money on it . Her body/dancing yes, but not her music. She has great music, but she has to grow as an artist to me considered for a Grammy” adding that, “It’s not discredit it’s the honesty in the fact she is not popular enough. She has great music, she just needs a bigger fan base for a Grammy.” Another added, “Teyana Taylor 100% deserved a Grammy nomination this year no ifs ands or buts about it.” One posted, “The grammy's is just another corrupted branch in the music industry.”

Even though the Best R&B Album category had all male nominations, the Best Progressive R&B Album did include two female nods i.e. album ‘Chilombo’ by Jhene Aiko and ‘Ungodly Hour’ by Chloe X Halle. Other nods in the same include Free Nationals’ self-titled album, ‘F**k Yo Feelings’ by Robert Glasper and ‘It Is What It Is’ by Thundercat.

Interestingly, the Best Rock Performances category had all-female nods including Fiona Apple for her song ‘Shameika’, Big Thief for ‘Not’, Phoebe Bridgers for ‘Kyoto’, HAIM for her single ‘The Steps’, Brittany Howard for ‘Stay High’ and Grace Potter for ‘Daylight’.

Teyana Taylor had released her third studio project called ‘The Album’ in June 2020 and featured appearances from the legendary Lauryn Hill, Future, Missy Elliott, Quavo, Rick Ross, Erykah Badu, Big Sean and others. With 23 songs, her album debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 chart making her first-ever debut in the top 10.
