News broke that due to the coronavirus pandemic and the rap star's pre-existing asthmatic condition, he could finish the rest of his sentence under house arrest.

According to recent reports the incarcerated rapper Tekashi 6ix 9ine aka Daniel Hernandez has now been freed from prison, and will serve the remaining four months of his sentence under house arrest. There were a couple of factors that worked in his favor -- the 'Stoopid' rapper is known to suffer from asthma and bronchitis, and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic had already spread to the private prison facility where he had been incarcerated. He'd originally been sentenced to 37 years in jail due to his involvement with the dangerous Nine Tr3y Bloods gang, amongst a slew of other federal charges that included shootings and racketeering. However, after providing first-hand testimony that would aid federal investigators in their prosecution, Hernandez was granted leniency and received a reduced sentence of just two years.

Just days after one of his associates, Kooda B, was also given the green light to serve the rest of his sentence on bail, U.S. District Judge Paul A. Engelmayer made the ruling to grant Tekashi 6ix 9ine temporary release due to his pre-existing asthmatic condition. He’s been ordered to wear a GPS monitor and stay put at an approved address under the provisions of his new house arrest ruling. Until then, he can visit only his lawyer or a doctor. Judge Engelmayer termed the ongoing coronavirus threat “a raging and virulent pandemic that has entered federal prisons in New York City," and “in light of the heightened medical risk presented to Mr. Hernandez by the COVID-19 pandemic, there are extraordinary and compelling reasons to reduce Mr. Hernandez’s sentence.” Attorneys for both sides did not appeal the decision.

It's welcome news for the 23-year-old rapper, and he took to social media to celebrate the ruling. "Shout-out to these lawyers, man! Them n***** work quick as f***" said an ecstatic Tekashi in an Instagram Live video. He went on to say, "I'm so happy to be home, I can't wait to see my baby, I can't wait to see my daughter. Oh, my God, man!" His fans were also thrilled for the 'Fefe' hitmaker, and posted messages of support and congratulations. "Welcome home brother, stay out of the way, get your money back up! I'm with you!" said a supporter, while another fan posted "Let's f****** goooo!" An admirer tweeted, "Tekashi about to entertain me throughout this whole quarantine," while another follower encouraged him, "I hope all of those who are released from jail take advantage of this and do right from here on out. You are given a "second chance." Do not mess it up and get in any kind of trouble; and if you get around troublemakers, leave them alone and stay away from them."

Other fans were not so encouraging, however. Considering he had provided testimony against members of his own gang in order to get a reduced sentence, some fans took a dim view of the proceedings - "Lil snitch, boy you get smoked in the streets" said one disgruntled party, while another woman posted "SMH (shaking my head), I can't believe they actually let him out." An infuriated reader said, "So, let me get this straight, Tekashi 69 got out of prison early because he’s afraid to catch COVID? B*******. Let his ass rot in there. Meanwhile, you’ve got people still serving time for selling marijuana even though dispensaries are deemed an essential business." Other fans were cracking jokes at his expense, calling him "Tekashi Snitch9ine" and saying "He’s gonna need some witness protection." However, the derisory comments are unlikely to bother the jubilant rapper, who is currently reveling in his new-found freedom. Let's hope he stays safe and keeps his health (and himself) in check.
