Valentina Boscardin: 'Fully vaccinated' Brazilian model, 18, dies of Covid complications

Valentina Boscardin Mendes, a Brazilian teenage model, has died of complications linked to Covid-19. The 18-year-old model contracted pneumonia and suffered fatal thrombosis or blood clots on Sunday, January 9, after she was admitted to hospital in her native Sao Paulo. Valentina was part of Ford Model Brasil São Paulo agency and had taken part in some international modeling tours.

Valentina's mother Marcia Boscardin, who is a TV presenter, actress and model herself, revealed the tragic news of her daughter's death on social media. Marcia said her daughter had received two doses of the Pfizer Covid jab and had no underlying health problems in her Instagram posts.

Marcia Boscardin, who has previously modeled for Givenchy and Christian Dior and now has her own YouTube channel posted a selfie and wrote, “It is with great pain that I say goodbye to the love of my life". She added, "Goodbye Valentina Boscardin Mendes. Let God receive you with open arms. My daughter, I will love you forever. An angel rises to heaven.”

The social media feed of the mother also includes photos of their last Christmas together - before Valentina’s health began to deteriorate - and her graduation as well as her 18th birthday pictures. The TV presenter shared some of the messages, she has received from well-wishers and celeb friends on her Instagram stories as well. 



 

Former model Helo Pinheiro, who was the inspiration for the famous song titled 'The Girl from Ipanema' has sent her condolences to Marcia. “Friend. I have just received some really sad news and I can’t believe it,” she said. “My God. It’s really hurting me. I really don’t know what to say to comfort you. I just pray you have the strength and faith to cope with this loss. My most sincere condolences, my friend. A big kiss from Rio.”

Felipe Campos, a family friend mourning Valentina’s death, wrote on Instagram: “Covid-19 has claimed another victim. The daughter of beloved model and businesswoman Marcia Boscardin died at the weekend, aged just 18, after suffering a thrombosis while she was fighting coronavirus.  Felipe added, “Valentina was a rising star and was looking forward to embarking on an international career. What sadness I feel. How can you tell a mum she needs to cope after this loss! Valentina was fully vaccinated with two doses of Pfizer. Rest in peace.”



 

One of Valentina’s last posts, before she fell ill, was a selfie photo in a bikini on the beach in Rio, which she captioned as, “Marvellous city.” She posed in a bikini on another beach again in Rio with Sugarloaf Mountain in the background and captioned it: “Vitamin sea.”
