'This man has a lot of nerve': Internet SLAMS Ted Cruz for claiming Chrissy Teigen didn't have an abortion
AUSTIN, TEXAS: Ted Cruz landed into a controversy after a recent podcast episode of 'Verdict with Ted Cruz' was aired. Cruz stated on the show, Chrissy Teigen who went through a miscarriage in 2020 is now "characterizing it as a life-saving abortion" to support her pro-choice stance in the Roe v Wade debate.
Teigen lost her third child with her husband John Legend halfway through the pregnancy. Earlier, it was revealed that the child suffered a placental abruption at the 20th week and had to deliver Jack with a clear understanding that the child would not survive outside the womb.

However, recently she claimed, "I told the world we had a miscarriage, the world agreed we had a miscarriage, all the headlines said it was a miscarriage....let’s just call it what it was: it was an abortion. An abortion to save my life for a baby that had absolutely no chance," at an event in Los Angeles. To which Cruz responded on the podcast, "She may want to characterize it as abortion in this political context but she described it at the time as a miscarriage and it certainly sounds like that was an accurate description."
He further added, "If there's a medical procedure in that context, it's not an abortion. It is the law in all 50 states, and it should be the law in all 50 states, that doctors can intervene to save the life of the mother even if it means tragically losing the child." Cruz, then explained, "There is nobody, even the most robust pro-life advocates, nobody argues that when the mother's life is in danger that you can't take extraordinary medical steps to preserve the mother's life."
In an earlier post on Medium in 2020, Teigan explained, "'My doctors diagnosed me with partial placenta abruption. I had always had placenta problems. I had to deliver Miles a month early because his stomach wasn’t getting enough food from my placenta."
The post further stated, "But this was my first abruption. We monitored it very closely, hoping for things to heal and stop." She also added, "The worst part is knowing there are so many women that won't get these quiet moments of joy from strangers. I beg you to please share your stories and to please be kind to those pouring their hearts out." However, Teigen is currently pregnant for the fourth time."
'Men stop telling women what they should and should not do'
Netizens were quick to react to the controversial statement. A user said, "Men stop telling women what they should and should not do." Another tweet read," It was a medical emergency where doctors had to terminate the pregnancy to save Chrissy's life and the baby was not thriving. That is not a miscarriage. What is wrong with men trying to tell a woman that they don't know and are not their doctor what procedure they had?"
Later, a user chimed, "Right because Ted was there. With his MD degree and all." However, another user stated, "I believe in pro-choice, but Chrissy did change her story to suit the sympathy she needed at the time. When she was getting dragged for telling teens to kill themselves it's a miscarriage. When she needed political it's an abortion. @chrissyteigen." Another user said, "How would he Possibly know what medical procedure she had and the appropriate medical term to use. How does he have time for petty stuff like this …..get to work!"
Further, a tweet read, "An abortion is an abortion…regardless of the reason it is done. The only one here trying to score political points is Ted." Later, a user added, "This man has a lot of nerve to tell a woman what she went through… SMDH" A user claimed, "This guy is unbelievable....I hope he is defeated by a good candidate when it comes up." Another tweet said, "I didn’t realize Ted Cruz was a doctor?!!." A user also noted, "Of course- a man knows better!"
