Black Thought EP 'Streams of Thought, Vol 3: Cane and Abel' to feature Pusha T and Swizz Beatz; check tracklist
The iconic African-American musician Tariq Trotter aka Black Thought, who is best known as the lead singer and co-founder of the multiple Grammy award-winning hip-hop collective The Roots (the house band on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon'), is set drop a new album this month, on July 31. The upcoming record, titled 'Streams of Thought, Vol 3: Cane and Abel', is the third installment in Black Thought's critically acclaimed 'Streams of Thought' series, with 'Vol 1' and 'Vol 2' being hailed as a "small testament to his sustained excellence” in 2018. Besides reaching the Top 10 of Billboard’s Top Independent Album charts, the singles from his previous offerings '9th vs. Thought' and 'Twofifteen' both earned Black Thought over 1 million streams each on Spotify. And now, 'Streams of Thought, Vol 3: Cane and Abel' looks set to kick off a new chapter in the beloved MC and actor's distinguished career.
The forthcoming release 'Streams of Thought, Vol 3: Cane and Abel' was produced entirely by Sean C (of Jay-Z, Diddy, Pusha T, and Joey Badass fame). The new 13-track collection sees Black Thought continue to hone his inimitable and impenetrable improvisation through some new thought-provoking and pulsating tunes. The album will also include guest features from heavy hitters in the music industry like Swizz Beatz, Portugal The Man, Pusha T, ScHoolboy Q, and The Last Artful, Dodgr. The first single, 'Thought Vs Everybody' is set to release this weekend on July 10, while the full 'Streams of Thought, Vol. 3: Cane and Abel' EP will be available in its entirety on all digital streaming platforms by July 31.
For this new release, Black Thought once again teamed up with a Black American visual artist for the cover, in keeping with his mission statement to “elevate hip-hop to high art.” This time, he enlisted the help of the young New York-based artist, Khari Turner, who created a stunning portrait inspired by Black Thought's vision for the album cover. Khari Turner’s incredible body of work is described nowadays as a "diary of struggle and overcoming struggle." He explores the history of black defeat, black revolutions, and black accomplishments coalescing through mark-making, realism, and expressionism.
