'This is wild': Sydney Sweeney reacts to claims she was RIGHT WING after MAGA-like hats spotted at mom's party
SPOKANE, WASHINGTON: Fans have accused actress Sydney Sweeney of being right-wing after she shared pictures of her mother's recent hoedown-themed 60th birthday party in Spokane, where attendees were seen sporting what looked like MAGA hats. Sweeney has reacted to the accusations calling them "absurd."
The 24-year-old Euphoria star, who was raised in a family-owned home in rural Idaho after being born in Spokane, posted pictures from the themed party on her Instagram account early on Saturday, August 27. One of the pictures showed a male partygoer wearing what appeared to be a Blue Lives Matter shirt, and another partygoer wearing a MAGA parody hat.

You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my moms milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention. Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone ♥️ and Happy Birthday Mom!

Sweeney took to Twitter and wrote, "You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my moms milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention. Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone and Happy Birthday Mom!"
A number of Sweeney's followers also observed that several partygoers were donning MAGA parody hats that said, "Make Sixty Great Again." In a video the actress shared of herself dancing with her loved ones, the red hats, which resemble those worn by former president Donald Trump's supporters, were seen on a number of guests.
Trent, the actress's younger brother, also uploaded a picture of himself posing with two guests who were wearing these hats to his Instagram page. In the post's caption, he added a brief note stating, "The hats say 'Make Sixty Great Again,'" an apparent reference to his mother's age.
Many of Sweeney's followers responded to her post on their various social media platforms. One wrote, "'WHERE WAS SYDNEY SWEENEY'S FAMILY MEMBERS ON THE NIGHT OF JANUARY 6TH 2021." Another person wrote,"We’re really gonna witness the downfall of sydney sweeney. i know her team’s going crazy rn." "People riding on the fact that Sydney Sweeney isn’t responsible for and doesn’t agree with her family’s political views but… posting photos of your family members literally wearing white supremacy memorabilia is so, so weird," tweeted another. One user hit back to the actress and wrote,"Assumptions? Don’t gaslight your fans (many are likely young progressive people based on the content of the show that gave you fame). Your family is obviously far-right based on the blue lives matter shirts and MAGA babies."

The 'White Lotus' actress's Instagram post has comments from her fans who asked why the actress was "kicking it with people who are wearing blue lives matter merch." However, many of her fans defended her. One fan wrote on Twitter, "Girl, you do you!! You don’t have to explain anything about your family to anyone! We are all afforded the right to our beliefs both political & otherwise. It’s America, not Russia!" Another fan wrote, "All of you guys seriously need to calm down. it was her brother who posted the pictures. and sydney’s political views ARE NOT her parents political views. let her celebrate today." "I could make one that’s says Make Democrats Great Again and you would still some how think it’s racist," tweeted another.

'I had parents who, no matter what, believed in me.'
In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Sweeney discussed how her mother in particular supported her when she decided to pursue acting. She has been open about her admiration for her parents. She said, "I wouldn't have been able to pursue my dreams without her supporting that decision. I was 12, 13 years old and my mom and dad gave up everything that they knew for me to be able to pursue my dreams. I had no connections. I did not come from money...but I had parents who, no matter what, believed in me."
Sweeney is known for playing Cassie Howard in the HBO TV show Euphoria. Since the beginning of the show, the actress, who shares screen space with Zendaya and Jacob Elordi, has garnered a lot of positive feedback for her performances. She was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series for her performance. After playing Olivia Mossbacher in the inaugural season of 'The White Lotus' in 2021, Sweeney was also nominated for the outstanding supporting actress in a limited or anthology series or movie award.
