Sex trafficking scandal
Harris and her husband rapper TI were in January 2021 accused of drugging, rape, and kidnapping, when a longtime acquaintance of the couple started posting tales of suspected victims on her Instagram account, bringing the allegations to light. More than two dozen women have come forward since then with similar stories. In a statement released through attorney Steve Sadow, according to Fox5 on April 7, the couple said they "are still waiting for the accusers to reveal themselves publicly."
Harris took to Instagram on May 5 to post a video of her preparing for the battle. "Pls live your life and stop harassing me! I'm trying to prepare for Verzuz babe damn!" the post reads, with the lyrics: "Hold on to love/Oooh ooooh oooooh, There's more to love than/making love", from the song 'I F****n' Love You'.
Who will win?
SWV (Sisters With Voices), a New York new jack swing trio comprised of Cheryl Gamble, Leanne Lyons, and Tamara Johnson, was one of the most influential R&B vocal groups of the 1990s. Their hits included 'Weak', which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as 'I'm So Into You,' 'Right Here (Human Nature Remix),' and 'You're The One.' It's About Time, the trio's debut album, was released in 1992. The group won the 2017 Soul Train Lady of Soul Award and was nominated for three Grammy awards in 1994, 1997 and 1998. They were also nominees for the Kids Choice Awards and the American Music Award.
Tameka "Tiny" Harris, LaTocha Scott, Tamika Scott, and Kandi Burruss, members of Atlanta's Xscape, were discovered by producer/rapper Jermaine Dupri, who signed them to his So So Def label, which released their album, 'Hummin' Comin' at 'Cha' in 1993. The band's signature songs, 'Understanding' and 'Just Kickin' It,' were featured on their album, which was followed by 1995's 'Off the Hook', and finally, 1998's 'Traces of My Lipstick'.
Considering SWV has a number of awards in their kitty, a Verzuz battle should be right up their sleeve. But Xscape, too, seems ready to put up quite the fight.
