'Supergirl' Season 5 Episode 4 sees James Olsen leaving National City and fans say their goodbyes as actor Mehcad Brooks exits the show

While most were prepared that this season would be James' last as a season regular, his exit from the show still felt rather abrupt

'Supergirl' Season 5 Episode 4 titled 'In Plain Sight' left fans in a bit of a tizzy. Going by the first reactions on Twitter, there was drama, romance, tension and a whole lot of action.

Apart from the constant shipping of Lena and Kara, fans not-so-tearfully bid goodbye to James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks). The actor will be leaving the show to focus on his feature films and develop a series of his own.

While most were prepared that this season would be James' last as a season regular, his exit from the show still felt rather abrupt. James and Kelly, who were still on the run from Malefic, sought refuge in their hometown, which has fallen into disrepute ever since they were children.

After talking to several journalists, James realizes that he needed to return home and restore Calvintown to its earlier glory.

"I've been fighting the good fight in my fancy corner office for years, and in the streets of National City as Guardian, but I started out as a guy with a camera, a camera our dad gave me. Among the people. And that is where I need to be," James says in the episode.

"For now, I’m going back to Calvintown. I'm going home. And I am going to show that town that there is somebody who is willing to fight for them. I'm going to buy the Calvintown Gazette," he continues.

"Andrea Rojas may be able to stop me from reporting for a newspaper, but she can’t stop me from publishing one," he added. One fan wrote in response, "James Olsen moving on to bigger and better things."

Another fan wrote, "#Supergirl just said goodbye to @MehcadBrooks James Olsen in a sweet, hopeful way that went all the way back to the show's pilot."

One fan reacted, "Wow, they're actually getting rid of James Olsen." Some fans hope that this isn't a goodbye forever. "And this Marks the Last We See of James Olsen in National City. Hopefully, it Won't be forever."

"You will be missed Jimmy/James Olsen @MehcadBrooks #Supergirl #SupergirlCW," one fan wrote.

Another fan got emotional and said that the goodbye to him was "so sweet". "#Supergirl we'll miss you James Olsen @MehcadBrooks they're all trying not to cry so sweet," the fan wrote.

Season five episode four of 'Supergirl' titled 'In Plain Sight' aired on October 28.
