LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The recent few weeks have been really stressful for DC fans and they have found themselves in the middle of turmoil in which they seem to be on the losing side as of now. The newest regime at DC has taken some decisions that have made fans really annoyed and the recent remarks made by James Gunn looked like a final nail in the coffin. However, fans have found a new ally and it’s none other than David Ayer, the director of the original ‘Suicide Squad’ movie.

Ayer has been one of the directors who have been leaving no stone unturned to talk against the Warner Bros management since he came out with the aforementioned movie. When the film came out, Ayer noted that the movie shown in theatres was way different than what he had made because of the management’s interference. Now that the DC has new management and fans want to see some really good decisions, Ayer has come forward to praise for putting pressure on the new regime to do what the fans want.

While replying to the tweet by James Gunn, Ayer noted that he has always seen “negativity” as a testament to the power of those characters. He added, “I always saw the negativity as a testament to the power of these characters. There’s something deeply mythological in them that ignites passion on both sides.”

This is not the first time Ayer has been speaking his heart out against the WB regime. In May 2022, the director revealed that his cut of ‘Suicide Squad’ was much different than the theatrical cut and said that it was like comparing “apples” with “oranges.”

Meanwhile, in 2020, Ayer revealed that the original ‘Suicide Squad’ was “beaten into a comedy.” While responding to a fan about the trailer of the movie, the filmmaker shared that the first trailer of the film absolutely “nailed” the concept of the movie that he made. Later, he also noted that the negative reviews for ‘Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ shocked the entire management, and were surprised to see how ‘Deadpool’ received universal acclaim. So, the management decided to change the tone and turned the movie into a “comedy.”

“This trailer nailed the tone and intention of the film I made. Methodical. Layered. Complex, beautiful and sad. After the BVS reviews shell shocked the leadership at the time, and the success of Deadpool - My soulful drama was beaten into a ''comedy'' (sic)” Ayer wrote.

The changing of tone didn’t work well and the film received a lot of negative reviews from the critics as well as audiences. Since then, Ayer has been echoing the sentiments of fans who have been requesting Warner Bros. to release the Ayer Cut just like they did for ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’.

Ayer’s comments come a few hours after Gunn came out with a statement slamming the ‘disrespectful cry’ over Henry Cavill’s sacking. The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ helmer went on to slam a certain section of people who have been harassing them and calling them names since the beginning. However, he also noted that he and Peter Safran have been called “worse” things in their lives.

‘Suicide Squad’ currently holds a rating of 27% on the review site Rotten Tomatoes.
