Angelica and her husband, Alberto "Spadino" Anacleti, are an odd couple, there's no denying that. Although married to each other out of an underworld family's business transaction, the two are deeply involved with each other. Which is also quite odd, because Spadino is gay. He keeps his sexuality closeted from his extremely conservative family who will kill him if they ever found out he's gay. And while there are ample jabs from here and there, calling Spadino not man enough, he has impregnated Angelica, and in his elder brother Manfredi's absence, the two have become the Anacleti royal couple, about to take over the business with Aureliano Adami.

In Season 3, however, Angelica's faith in her and Spadino's relationship begins faltering, and for all those left confused by the reason behind it here's what happens. After finding out that it was Manfredi who had planned the attack at Spadino's party, and later outside Titto's joint, targeting Nadia and angelica, Spadino is bloodthirsty with vengeance. Planning to kill Manfredi he ambushes the older Anacleti brother in his bedroom, pulling a knife on his throat. Although there's a scuffle between the two, Spadino backs out last minute and doesn't kill his brother, following which Aureliano promises to seek his revenge.

The Amadi representative ambushes Manfredi's car on the busy streets, shooting and hitting the vehicle from the back repeatedly, as he doesn't know Angelica has been forced inside the car too. All of the commotion, the run, chase, and crash, causes Angelica to miscarry and when Spadino is secretly able to free her from the hospital, she blames the loss of the baby on him. Having always known that her husband wouldn't ever fully be able to love her the way she wants, Angelica's first seeds of resentment came were sown at the party, when she saw Aureliano and Nadia passionately entwined around each other.

And now, with Spadino pretty much having led to her miscarriage she belts out all her frustration at her husband, admitting that they could never be a proper couple as his heart is elsewhere. This could refer to Spadino killing his lover, Teo, in the Season 2 finale or his deep-rooted feelings for Aureliano which he has harboured since the beginning. Watching him lose grip on his claim to the throne, Angelica blames Spadino for not killing Manfredi when he has the chance - thus beginning to resent their marriage once their baby is lost.

'Suburra: Blood on Rome' is now available for streaming only on Netflix.
