'This didn't suit a basketball game': Stylist trashes Meghan Markle’s ‘frumpy' and 'crumpled’ NBA outfit

The expert said Meghan Markle's two-piece ensemble was fit for a posh polo match and not a basketball game

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A stylist has called out Meghan Markle for making her first hometown fashion faux pas in front of thousands at a star-studded basketball game. The expert said the Duchess' two-piece ensemble was fit for a posh polo match and not a basketball game.

Meghan and her husband Prince Harry were spotted having a good time in an expensive VIP box at an NBA game on Tuesday night, April 25, between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Memphis Grizzles. The former 'Suits' star wore a Staud pink shorts suit, coupled with a Prada handbag and Aquazarro high heels. She completed the look with neutral makeup and a golden tan.

Meghan, 41, seemed to be in high spirits as she giggled with Harry while watching the game with about 20,000 other fans. Among those attending were Kim Kardashian and Adam Sandler. For the most part, everyone looked relaxed and blended in as they wore casual hoodies, sports caps, sneakers, and team t-shirts. However, the Duchess of Sussex raised some eyebrows with her outfit.

'This didn't suit a basketball game'

“Meghan doesn't seem to know what to wear to a basketball match," stylist Tavia Sharp told The Sun, adding, “Her pink linen suit would’ve been more suitable for a high-end polo match or a posh daytime event outside. This didn't suit a basketball game and was totally out of context. Meghan also knew she’d have cameras on her and that she’d be in the VIP box. Like Kim, she would’ve been preparing to have her and Harry’s photos taken, but it just feels like what she wore was inappropriate."

Sharp continued, “Even when Beyonce goes to games, she’ll dress more casually. Still in high fashion brands, but it's definitely more laid back. It could’ve worked if Meghan had worn jeans and a nice top. This all feels too bright for a basketball game. The others in her box were wearing navy and gray and tan-white, so the pink she chose did pop and create attention. Her suit was also crumpled and looked frumpy. It didn’t flatter her shape and hung off her body when she was walking around in her heels. This was all so off the mark for Meghan and very strange.”

Awkward moment

MEAWW previously reported how Meghan and Harry shared an awkward moment as they were shown on the arena's jumbotron. The prince appeared to lean in for a kiss but his wife did not play along. While it wasn't a kiss-cam feature, the couple couldn't help but appear jittery at the prospect. The Duchess awkwardly waved at the camera while her husband smirked tensely. 

Sharp noted how Meghan wore white shorts to a match at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club in May to cheer Harry on from the sidelines. The stylist approved of that outfit as it was appropriate for the occasion.

“Meghan wore the correct type of outfits to these polo matches,” Sharp pointed out, adding, “Pink linen just isn't right for a basketball game. It’s a breathable fabric but has natural wrinkles. It’s surprising Meghan wore this to a game where she was constantly standing up and sitting down in those high heels. These basketball games are casual where people don't really wear suits or ones with Bermuda shorts. Meghan's outfit didn't work for the event at all.
