‘Still a Canadian’: Keanu Reeves jokes about plans to become a US citizen on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on October 6, Kimmel noted that even though the 58-year-old Keanu Reeves has resided in the country for over three decades, Reeves still holds Canadian citizenship. To which, ‘The Matrix’ actor too said, “I'm still a Canadian," and would like to become a US citizen.
Narrating his Hollywood journey, Reeves said, "I came to Hollywood when I was 20. I drove in my car. I do, yeah, I've been living here since 1985." To which Kimmel quickly interrupted and said, “And, yet technically, you’re not a US citizen," which prompted Reeves to say, "No, man, I'm still a Canadian." To this, Kimmel further told, “You’re a Canadian citizen, and you’ll always be a Canadian, but is that not something you’re interested in being a US citizen?” "Yes, absolutely, yeah man, why not,” responded Reeves. Kimmel then joked and said, "Well why hasn’t the president called and said, Hey, we’d love to sign you up." "I’ll send him some BRZRKR,” Reeves added, referring to his new comic book. Kimmel said as he took out some papers from his desk, "I do have the paperwork here. If you want to fill it out, we got it. We even got you a pen [with an American flag design]. It’s very patriotic.”

Taking the conversation further, Kimmel then turns to his sidekick, Guillermo Rodriguez, who is Mexican-American, and asked, “Was it hard, Guillermo?” Rodriguez responded by saying, “No, it’s real easy. You should do it!” Kimmel questioned, “Guillermo, you filled out all of this stuff? This is a lot of stuff to fill out.” “Yeah, I did, Jimmy,” Rodriguez replied.
Kimmel also suggested Reeves getting married to him and added he had already discussed this with his wife. The actor jokingly responded, “But you’re married. You’d be a criminal, you’d be on the run, we’d have to be on the run, Jimmy. That’s a no.” Kimmel said, "I know, but I told her we might have to make some amendments to our Constitution." The late-night talk show host also shared that he would host a welcome ceremony on the show once Reeves obtains US citizenship. Kimmel jokingly said, “And we’ll get all your favorite heroes, Captain America and Wonder Woman will come here, it’ll be very patriotic,” and “Leprechauns,” Reeves added.
