The poster reveals that dark times are still ahead along with a glimmer of hope. Here's everything to expect from ABC's action-drama series once it comes back after the Covid-19 break.
Where we left off
‘Station 19’ brought death, doom and tragedy with all its twists and turns as Andy Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz) lost two closest people in her life: her childhood best friend Ryan Tanner (Alberto Frezza) and her father Pruitt Herrera (Miguel Sandoval). What's more, her relationship with Robert Sullivan (Boris Kodjoe) got stronger as the two exchanged vows and in the end, she found out that her mother, Elena Herrera (Patricia De Leon), was actually still alive.
Talking about the cliffhanger, showrunner Krista Vernoff revealed it had been decided Andy's mother was alive "since the beginning of our conversations about season three," adding: "It was one of the first ideas we had."
The Season 3 finale — titled 'Louder Than a Bomb' — featured two major relationship shifts. While Maya Bishop (Danielle Savre) and Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato) forgive their past and get back together, Travis Montgomery (Jay Hayden) and Emmett Dixon (Lachlan Buchanan) break up. Moroever, Dean Miller (Okieriete Onaodowan) and Victoria "Vic" Hughes (Barrett Doss) go from being roommates to crushes and it's getting complicated.
Talking about the complex interpersonal relationship, she told Deadline: "Love isn’t always enough to sustain a relationship, and Andy’s going through a lot and Sullivan’s going through a lot. I’m excited to gather the writers. I’m excited to see who Ben becomes in the wake of what he went through this season, and I just feel like Travis getting brave enough to admit to Emmett that he doesn’t love him, that he’s not in love with him, I think took as much bravery as Maya telling Carina that she loved her. I’m excited to get into the room with the writers and begin to explore all of the characters and all of the things that the season finale of three have set us up for."
What we'd like to see
There's a lot to look forward to as the series comes back. ABC’s firefighter drama “gets hit with a pandemic,” Krista Vernoff told TVLine and added it is “ironic because we still have a lighter season planned” than the previous one — which had one too many deaths. Addressing the tension in the last season, Vernoff admitted that “there was some real darkness last season — so much death. This season, the team pulls together and finds a lot of joy despite the heaviness of the world.”
Will Andy and Sullivan survive the storms in their relationship? “They’ve both been through a hell of a lot,” the executive producer said. “But I’m rooting for them!” Moreover, what will Andy's mother's return mean for her? Andy will be “massively, massively” changed by learning that her mother is alive, Vernoff said: “There's so much unsaid, so much unknown. What happened? Why did her father tell her her mother was dead? What happened between [Pruitt and Elena] is such ripe, fertile ground for season four. We're really excited to get into it. We know what happened, but Andy doesn't.”
When is it returning?

"It's a war zone and we're the ones on the frontline," the clip begins. Amid fires and medical emergencies, the narration then reads, "What we're up against now is unlike anything that came before. We won't stop fighting. We won't stop feeling. Because sometimes, we all need saving."
