PETERBOROUGH, ENGLAND: 'Star Wars' actor Paul Grant died at the age of 56 on Thursday afternoon, March 16. Police found him collapsed outside Kings Cross station, his family said in a statement. The father-of-three was declared brain dead at a hospital.

Grant, who starred alongside Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill in 'Return of the Jedi' as an Ewok, was on a life support machine that was switched off on Sunday, March 19. His 28-year-old daughter Sophie Jayne Grant was "devastated" and described him as a "legend in so many ways," reported Daily Mail.

Grant's daughter Sophie recalled the actor as someone who "always brought a smile and laughter to everyone's face." She said, "My dad, I love you so much sleep tight." Sophie said that he was a person who would do anything for anyone and loved his daughters and son. Grant's girlfriend Maria Dwyer, 64, described him as someone who made her life complete and was the 'love of her life.'

Paul Grant's film career

Grant appeared in the film adaptation of 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' and played the role of a goblin. The 4ft 4in dwarf made his early appearance in 'Labyrinth', a 1986 film as a Hoggle's stunt double and also as part of the goblin corps. Grant played several roles in films including the 1985 Tom Cruise films 'Legend' and 'Deuce Bigalow 2' and the 1988 movie 'Willow with Val Kilmer'. He became popular for his role as an Ewok in the 'Star Wars' movie 'Return of the Jedi'.

Talking about his break up with his wife and his life that went out of his control after he lost all his money on drugs, drinks, and prostitutes, he blamed himself for his marriage falling apart. He said, "I need help. I've been on cocaine and it has just got worse. I'm drinking and smoking what I can get. I had a family, I was married, now I'm divorced. I've lost everything. I've not got anything, my things, pictures, clothes are all over the place. I don't know what I want at the moment. I had money, I blew it all, I spent it on drugs and prostitutes," according to Daily Mail.
