New 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' skins announcement from 'Smite' restarts Aang vs Korra debate
The mythological MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game 'Smite' has recently announced its latest skins for three of its characters from the 'Avatar' franchise. This essentially allowing players to battle as Aang, Korra and Zuko - and this has restarted fan debate as to which Avatar wore their four elements best. The fans are going back and forth over which series was better, whether Korra or Aang made the better Avatar, but as the trend continues, there are just enough voices calling out for the debate to end. The Avatar is meant to bring balance, after all.
"Its unfair to compare aang and korra because aang had like a year to learn the elements and korra had her whole life. and there is obviously going to be a difference since korra is five years older than aang. they both had different strengths and weaknesses. they were opposites," said one tired fan, on Twitter. After all the online bickering as to which Avatar is the best, fans seem to wish it would be vastly preferable if the two teamed up. "The worst part about avatar is that aang and korra can’t exist at the same time," bemoaned a Twitter user. "Y’all gonna stop disrespecting my girl korra as if her and aang aren’t the same person," pointed out a fan, raising an interesting point - the Avatar's cycle of reincarnation means that, in a sense, Aang and Korra are the same person.
Still, that doesn't stop the rest of the fandom to continue to make their arguments about who the One True Avatar really is. "Korra is trending again so here’s my obligatory tweet trying to convince men in this fandom that Korra is canonically stronger than Aang," wrote a fan. "I’ll give that Korra may be stronger physically however strategy was never in her favor and homegirl could barely fight in the Avatar state. Aang would have wiped her all across the floor," countered another.
Since the two never faced off against each other, some fans pointed out that Korra faced much tougher challenges in her time."Not to disrespect Aang but Korra faced tougher antagonists. That alone suggests that she can hold her own against Aang." Other fans pointed out that Korra had years of training with the best masters in the world, during a peaceful time, to get her skills honed. "Aang was 12 for the whole show," said one. "Aang beat the strongest fire bender in a comet which made him even stronger and didn’t want to kill no one and had to learn energy bending he was also 12 YEARS OLD was asleep 100 years which drained his life and learned every single type of bending in a summer korda aint on him," said a fan.
There's one thing, at least, that die-hard fans of both Korra and Aang can agree on, as this user pointed out. "Whether you prefer Aang or Korra, let's just agree they're both better than the live action movie."
The makers of 'Smite,' plan to reveal more about the new skins and the Avatar Battle Pass during a stream on Twitch on June 24, at 12 pm PST. In the meanwhile, all episodes of 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' and 'The Legend of Korra' are available to stream on Netflix.
