‘Running Point’ Season 2 recap: Isla faces new challenges after championship win—ending explained
Season 2 of 'Running Point' on Netflix concluded with a bang and set up the third installment brilliantly. By the end of the sophomore season, Kate Hudson's Isla Gordon found herself battling overwhelming odds that stressed her a lot more than any other time on the show. While Isla tried her best to lead her team, the Los Angeles Waves, on a journey filled with success, she faced resistance from an unexpected quarter. The return of Isla's brother, Cam, didn't help resolve the leadership tussle, and eventually Isla was served with what was perhaps the greatest betrayal of her life!
The debut season ended with Isla settling into her role as the team's president. She had a great record by then, having previously led the team to the playoffs. However, her position wasn't entirely safe as her brother Cam harbored ambitions for the same office and was willing to usurp her seat. Season 2 took off with Cam returning to the Waves and instantly making himself at home. Although Isla and her friend Ali were frustrated, they tried their best to accommodate him. Cam, on his part, practically made no secret of his bid for the top spot in the team's administration. Needless to say, Isla doesn't take too kindly to this.
When Isla finally wakes up to the grave nature of her situation, she realizes that Cam intends to restructure the team's ownership shares. He would be doing this with the express intent of voting Isla out of the team. A saving grace soon arrived in the form of Jackie, who discreetly recorded Cam admitting to manipulating his sobriety tests. Isla then used this information not only to defeat Cam's ambition but also to oust him from the Los Angeles Waves organization. Cam's crimes are quite serious, as it was eventually known that he implicated Sandy in an embezzlement scheme and blackmailed Jackie. On the other hand, the morning after winning the championship, the entire team, including Isla and the organization, was hungover following a night of intense partying.
All of a sudden, Jackie arrived with coffee and quickly turned on the television. It turns out that Cam had joined forces with Al Fleischman, and the two announced the revival of the Los Angeles Industry basketball team as a direct competitor to the LA Waves. That isn't all, as Cam deliberately wanted to add insult to injury and recruited Jay as their part-owner and head coach. It is worth noting that Jay and Isla had an affair that ended when Isla focused on the championship. All in all, the sophomore season ended with Isla being in a tough corner, from where she would most certainly bounce back in the third season.
