Smashing Pumpkins cancel Rock Invasion 2 tour after previous delays, fans ask for a live-streamed concert
One of the most popular bands of the grunge era, Smashing Pumpkins, have recently come out with a statement regarding the cancellation of their highly anticipated Rock Invasion 2 tour. The band had previously postponed the RI2 tour from the spring to the fall in light of the coronavirus pandemic, but now that logistics and social distancing restrictions are definitely going to be a weighty issue moving forward, Billy Corgan and company have decided to pull the plug on the entire tour altogether. The Smashing Pumpkins had originally been slated to play at several music festivals and open for Guns N’ Roses in the summer, but now it looks like we'll have to wait for a while to see the 'Bullet With Butterfly Wings' hitmakers take flight once again.
Smashing Pumpkins recently released a statement on their official social media channels, which read: "It is with heavy hearts that we must announce The Smashing Pumpkins Rock Invasion 2 tour will no longer be taking place. Though this decision did not come easily, it is our top priority to maintain the safety and health of our fans, crew, and venue staff. Tickets will automatically be refunded at point of purchase. Thank you for understanding. 🖤"
Their loyal fans were thankfully pretty understanding of the unfortunate situation, considering the Covid-19 crisis has now put normal life on hold for the last three months worldwide. It's far better to wait for a more suitable and convenient time when we're all in a happier and safer space to start rocking out again.
One fan said, "BUMMER!! But, I understand. This won’t last forever...we will ROCK again." Other fans chimed in with their messages of support, saying "So disappointed but understand. Hope ticketholders get the first chance to buy tickets for the next tour. It'd be a shame to miss out if a future show sells out when I had a ticket for this one."
Many Smashing Pumpkins fans requested a live stream concert to keep them entertained. One fan said, "Hate it for y'all and for us. Maybe do a full band livestreamed set to tide us over?" Other supporters also exclaimed, "Totally. Would love to see them play the stripped down, straightforward, face-puncher of a setlist as an online performance at the very least. Is it possible @SmashingPumpkin? I would put my ticket toward that." Another longtime listener said, "Please, please give us a live-streamed show !! We miss you!!"
Let's hope Billy Corgan can sort out arrangements for a live-stream gig soon because that would promise to be a truly historic night.
