'Silicon Valley' Season 6 Episode 2 promo shows Jared submit resignation as Richard turns down billion dollars for ethical reasons

In the promo, Jared says, “Pied Piper isn’t the same company I signed up for… she has different needs now.” Already stressed about turning down a billion dollars and lying to the Senate, Richard bursts at Jared: “You buddy-f****r! I am your buddy and you are f*cking me. Ergo, buddy-f****r”

The first episode of ‘Silicon Valley’ Season 6 left things as uncertain as they can be for Pied Piper and the gang -- a standard for the series at this point. Richard Hendricks (Thomas Middleditch) lies to the Senate at a Congressional hearing about data privacy; although in his defense, he had no idea he was lying.

Jared Dunn (Zach Woods) feels he is no longer close to Richard. Gavin Belson (Matt Ross) in his hubris lost more of Hooli than he ever could have imagined. Things are bleak. In a promo video for episode 2, ‘Blood Money’, as the title suggests, the future has more uncomfortable choices.

A supposedly “very bad man” offers Pied Piper a billion dollars. We see the gentleman shaking hands with Richard, but as we find out, Richard chooses not to accept his money. Because for Richard, there’s nothing above ethics -- a little rich coming from a guy whose company makes a game that records audio conversations through headset mics.

But as Richard says, “You can’t put a price on ethics!” While Bertram Gilfoyle (Martin Starr) and Dinesh Chugtai (Kumail Nanjiani) seem to disagree with the decision, Monica Hall (Amanda Crew) is clearly on Richard’s side.

The season 6 trailer shows Monica saying, “We cannot take his money. These guys executed people in soccer stadiums.” On the other side, Gavin Belson is now preaching ethics. Or actually Tethics -- Tech Ethics. Which, as everyone knows by now, stands in sharp contrast against his personality. Essentially, in the words of Richard, “hypocritical garbage”.

Jared (Zach Woods), as we saw in episode 1, feels distant from Richard. At the end of the first episode, we see Jared reach out to a young inexperienced coder at their cold incubator. In the promo, we see his finality; he offers his resignation.

He says, “Pied Piper isn’t the same company I signed up for… she has different needs now.” Of course, Richard doesn’t react well to this. Already stressed about turning down a billion dollars and lying to the Senate, he bursts at Jared: “You buddy-f****r! I am your buddy and you are f*cking me. Ergo, buddy-f****r.”

We also see the introduction of a new, over-enthusiastic (kind of manic) character who pitches something called “RustFest” to Pied Piper. The character vaguely reminds one of Fyre Festival and the conman behind it: Billy McFarland.

All in all, the second episode of ‘Silicon Valley’ Season 6 is going to be absolutely packed with drama and we can hardly wait!

New episodes of ‘Silicon Valley’ premiere Sundays at 10 p.m. on HBO.
