DUXBURY, MASSACHUSETTS: A Duxbury mother, accused of killing her three children, was reportedly emotionless weeks before taking the extreme step, her lawyer has claimed. Lindsay Clancy has been pressed with two counts of murder, three counts of strangulation, and three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for the January 24 killing of 7-month-old Callan, 3-year-old son Dawson, and 5-year-old Cora. The woman has pled not guilty to all the charges.

But as per her defense attorney Kevin Reddington, PEOPLE reported, the 32-year-old was not in her senses before allegedly murdering the little ones. He told the court on Tuesday, February 7, that the midwife had “been unable to express any happiness, or sadness, or cry”. “In fact, sometime about a month or two ago, she made the comment, 'I just wish that I could feel something,’” Reddington asserted.

‘Postpartum psychosis to blame for the unfortunate episode’

According to prosecutors, Lindsay killed the young ones with “deliberate premeditation and extreme atrocity and cruelty.” However, her lawyer has reportedly said that an overdose of medicines given to her by her doctors inflamed her anxiety and depression. Besides, it has also been suggested that the suspect suffered from postpartum psychosis.

Reddington reportedly stated, “She was a shell of herself, no personality. Right up to the very end when she was so bad that she voluntarily turned herself in” to a psychiatric treatment facility in early January and remained there for a few days. But later in the same month, when one day her husband, Patrick, went outside for some time, she allegedly strangulated the children before attempting to kill herself too.

Husband and friends are supporting Lindsay

Despite all the emotional and mental wreckage, Patrick has backed his “murderer” wife. In a GoFundMe, he wrote, “I want to ask all of you that you find it deep within yourselves to forgive Lindsay, as I have. The real Lindsay was generously loving and caring towards everyone - me, our kids, family, friends, and her patients. The very fibers of her soul are loving. All I wish for her now is that she can somehow find peace.”

One of Lindsay’s friends also shared a very different side of her from what currently she is known for. Taking to Facebook, Brittany Jeane Lyman posted a letter from Lindsay and captioned, “It was a gut punch to find this letter in my drawer the other day. To see this beautiful handwriting that I remember so well from our high school days. The past 7 days have been heart-wrenching to say the least, but the warmth that I felt while reading this just has to be shared with someone else.”

“Her words are so beautiful and embody the true spirit of motherhood. I always went to her for advice during the pregnancy uncertainties, the postpartum isolation, and the scary parenting firsts. She knew it all. She knew the roller coaster all too well. She is pure light, and was still ‘all consumed’ by an inexplicable darkness. I know the true Lindsay. Her husband, her family, her friends, her beautiful children. We all know the true Lindsay. Amidst the terrible things that have been and will be said about her. I want everyone to know the true Lindsay,” Lyman added.
