Is Shakira planning to leave Spain amidst tax fraud claims? Singer might head to Miami for 'refuge'
Shakira has been constantly making headlines ever since her split with partner Gerard Pique in June 2022 and if that was not enough, the Spanish R&B star has also been dealing with the tax fraud controversies since July. It is being reported that the ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ hitmaker, who is in the middle of a custody battle for her kids, is apparently planning to leave Barcelona for good.
According to Page Six, sources spilled the beans revealing that the Colombian superstar might be leaving her personal troubles behind. The 45-year-old crooner might be shifting her base to Miami and that too full-time. Let’s not forget that Shakira is facing up to eight years of jail after she was accused of tax fraud by the Spanish authorities.

According to Page Six, Shakira’s family friend and realtor Ana Lourdes Martinez feels Miami is Shakira’s “refuge”. The singer in Miami Beach has close family and friends whom she can rely on for support. In Miami, she also enjoys a very private and palatial, waterfront mansion.
Martinez, who works with Shakira’s brother Antonio on the singer’s real estate holdings, shed some light on the matter saying, “Miami is her home” adding, “Her parents live here, her brother lives here, her niece and nephew, too.” He further shared, “She doesn’t have any family in Spain. It’s a different environment from Barcelona.” It is also being reported that Shakira’s friends are also trying to convince the singer to move her base to South Beach and interestingly, the skilled crooner has also expressed her desire to relocate to the Sunshine State. For the unversed, Shakira bought a house in Spain in 2012.
Shakira and Gerard Pique split
Shakira and Gerard Pique who announced their spit in June 2022, were together since 2011. The duo shares two sons - 9-year-old Milan and 7-year-old Sasha. In a statement to E! News, the duo asserted, “We regret to confirm that we are parting ways” adding, "For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding."
The footballer met the popstar after appearing in the music video for her single ‘Waka Waka,’ which was the 2010 World Cup's official song. Pique was reportedly secretly dating a 23-year-old public relations student identified as Clara Chia Marti. He was also reportedly privately messaging other women, including Brazilian model Suzy Cortez, aka Miss BoomBum.
Shakira’s tax fraud case
Shakira is facing up to eight years of jail if she is found guilty of an alleged $14.6 million tax fraud. The singer has been charged in Spain with six counts of defrauding the state between 2012 and 2014, with prosecutors demanding an additional $23.1 million penalty. It was also reported that the songstress already repaid the money she allegedly owes the treasury, along with interest amounting to $3.65 million.
