Blackpink and Selena Gomez have dropped the extremely sweet, peppy video for their new single 'Ice Cream' and it appears their fans couldn't be happier with how the collaboration turned out. After over a month of teasing before they finally unveiled who the mystery artist on the track was, YG Entertainment titillated fans with teaser photos and videos as well as a short video call between Blackpink and Gomez where the two gushed about one another as a snippet of the track played in the background. With a sound that harkens back to late 2000s bops like MIA's 'Paper Planes' and a bit of Fergie's 'London Bridge' and a blend of Gomez's signature vocals and Blackpink's own unique style, this song delivers the perfect throwback vibe that's just contemporary enough to make it perfect for a 2020 kind of summer. Ariana Grande and Victoria Monet served as co-writers on the track.

Sharing the release on social media, Gomez stated, "#SELPINK is officially in your area. The song and video for Ice Cream are out now!" Before the song's sound struck people, it was the five women's visuals that most people noticed right off the bat. "U LOOK SO GORGEOUS IN THE MV OMG," stated one fan of Gomez, "Girl I couldn’t process anything except that they all look so good," stated another fan of both acts and one Blink shared, "WHY IS BLACKPINK SO CUTE." Blackpink has steadily moved towards more hard-hitting sounds in their recent work, including 'How You Like That' and their retro-electronic-funk track 'Sour Candy' with Lady Gaga, but it's a welcome change to see them embrace a concept that is purely fun and upbeat.

Fans were soon going from admiring the looks all of them were serving to grooving and jamming along with the song. One tweet read, "EXCUSE ME, THIS SONG IS A BANGER OMFG, THOSE OUTFITS & ENGLISH LYRICS ALSO EVERYTHING IM IN LOVE OMFG!!" to which another user responded, "I WAS LEGIT CRYING FOR HOW GOOD IT WAS." Another fan said, "AHHHH SELPINK SNAPPED I'm so happy omg ICE CREAM CHILLIN' go watch it," and one more fan stated, "#IceCream IS SO CUTE perfect fun summer song."

The song is evidently already a hit with fans. Jennie and Lisa both got to flex their rapping skills on this track and their fans definitely took notice. One Lisa fan shared, "Damn her rap is killing me." Other fans couldn't help but gush over Jennie's hair for this comeback, with one fan sharing "Okay but Jennie's wig looks good sjsjsjsjsj." But fans soon began to share their displeasure at how few lines Jisoo and RosΓ© were given in this song. "Omg a Jisooless bop," quipped one, highlighting that despite the song itself being a fast favorite among fans, there were still some things they weren't too happy about.

Jisoo and RosΓ© are both the group's vocalists while Jennie and Lisa, though billed as rappers, are capable of wearing multiple hats, Jennie as a vocalist herself and Lisa as the group's dancer. All four, however, are capable of speaking and singing in English, a bonus for 'Ice Cream' seeing as the song is entirely in English. Yet, oddly enough, the group's vocalists were largely benched for this track, with RosΓ©, who is from Australia and arguably the best within the group at singing in English, not being given a chance to truly shine. As one fan shared, "U don't know how to manage a group, Jisoo and RosΓ© deserved much more highlights, BLACKPINK is not only Lisa and Jennie, you are disrespectful @ygent_official." It appears the label continues to leave behind more things to answer for with each release.

But line distribution issues aside, the song itself is a bop and fans are already declaring it's making them want to head out for a bit of dessert themselves. One fan stated, "Now I'm cravin for ice cream omw to 7/ll chz."
