LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a new video that she posted to her Instagram on Friday night, March 31, the 'Selling Sunset' star Mary Fitzgerald revealed that she had surgery after sustaining a septic miscarriage. The 41-year-old reality personality, who is married to Romain Bonnet, delivered a heartbreaking update on her 'rough' fertility struggle in the video.

Per the Daily Mail, Fitzgerald stated in the emotional video that she became pregnant while she and her husband Romain Bonnet, 29, were on their honeymoon in Bali, but that the pregnancy "didn't work out." Fitzgerald choked back tears as she added, "On top of the miscarriage, I also had a septic miscarriage. So, had to go in for surgery for that."

'There's still hope'

Fitzgerald began the Instagram video by saying, "I'm going to try to do this without crying, it's taken me a few weeks to say everything that's been going on." She went on to say addressing her million followers, "We did get pregnant. When were in Bali, and got pregnant, and, unfortunately that didn't work out." She added: "And, on top of the miscarriage, I apparently had what they call a septic miscarriage, so I had to go into surgery for that."

The mother-of-one continued by saying that she realizes how "common this is" and that it's not "easy." She has an adult son called Austin from a previous marriage. She explained, "I needed a minute because there's so many eyes on me, and everyone judges, and everything. And, it has been rough, to say the least. But there's still hope."

Fitzgerald continued, saying that she would keep sharing her story, that they would "keep trying," and that they would soon have "very good news very soon." The realtor wrote in her caption that trying to get pregnant is "not always sunshine and butterflies" and that she wanted to let others know they are "not alone."

'Most beautiful human inside and out'

Fans and celebs took to the comment section to express their love and gratitude for Fitzgerald opening up about a vulnerable topic like a miscarriage. Amanza Smith commented, "Most beautiful human inside and out. Love you both so much and will continue to hold you up through all your pain. Yes you will have good news very soon." One fan wrote, "This is such a hard thing to go through. I know this feeling so well. You are not alone. Take all the time you need to be sad, and to heal. Grief has no time limit. I’m so sorry for your loss. Sending the warmest healing hugs."

Fitzgerald received love and condolences from Maya Vander, who suffered a stillbirth at 38 weeks in 2021 and a miscarriage at 10 weeks last year. Vander also conveyed her regret that Fitzgerald "had to experience" this suffering. Luxury realtor Brett Oppenheim also commented, "We will always be here to support you and Romain, through anything. Love you."

What is a septic miscarriage?

According to the Mayo Clinic, a septic miscarriage occurs when a woman has an infection in the uterus. This condition can result in fever, chills, vaginal bleeding, vaginal discharge, and an accelerated heart rate. The infection's root cause must subsequently be removed by surgery. Unfortunately, there isn't much that can be done to prevent a miscarriage besides getting regular prenatal care, consuming less caffeine, taking a daily multivitamin, and avoiding other recognized miscarriage risk factors.

Mary Fitzgerald is married to Romain Bonnet

In March 2018, more than a year before their Netflix-documented nuptials, Bonnet and Fitzgerald exchanged vows in a private civil ceremony. After having to postpone the honeymoon owing to COVID-19, the couple eventually got to celebrate their love with a luxurious honeymoon to Bali almost four years later.

She acknowledged that she was apprehensive to have another kid in an exclusive interview with MailOnline in 2020. According to the reality star, her husband "is the one that wants to have kids." Due to their extremely "busy" schedules at the time, she believed it would be "unfair to bring a child into the world right now."
