Selena Gomez 'breaks up' with social media after supporting BFF Taylor Swift against Hailey Baldwin

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Selena Gomez, who recently regained the title of having the most Instagram followers, declared that she is taking a break from social media. This news also comes after Gomez supported her "best friend" Taylor Swift after a viral video of Hailey Bieber apparently making fun of Swift surfaced online.

On Thursday, February 23, Gomez talked about taking a break from the internet on a TikTok live after she faced harsh criticism for her apparent jab at the 26-year-old wife of Justin Bieber. She emphasised before making her statement that she will not change who she is and that she is happy to be with her closest friends and fans. "I'm gonna be taking a second from social media cause this is a little silly and I'm 30," the 'Same Old Love' singer said. "I'm too old for this. But I love you guys so much and I will see you guys sooner than later. I'm just going to have to take a break from everything."

What did Selena Gomez do?

Many have believed that Gomez and Hailey have been at odds since the model married the 'Rare' singer's on-and-off lover Justin Bieber. Recently, Gomez was spotted expressing her sincere reaction to a resurfaced viral video of Hailey mocking Swift.

On TikTok, @duckcopycat0 shared a clip of Hailey standing with rapper Method Man as they co-hosted the model's former show, 'Drop the Mic', as reported by Daily Mail. The rapper Method Man was presenting a performance that he described as "a one-on-one rap battle full of the meanest lyrics about a celebrity since Taylor Swift's last album."

Hailey pretended to choke, stuck her tongue out and then rolled her eyes in response to his statement about Swift. In reaction to the video, which apparently caught her attention, Gomez wrote, "So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game." 

'She is obsessed with the Biebers'

Many people on Twitter reacted to Gomez's comment with one person writing, "I use to admire Selena staying out of drama but it's clear she's weird now lol. Explains why Bella won't follow her back." Another person wrote, "Selena keeps making headlines about tiktok and Hailey. Who's obsessed with who? Her whole FYP is probably Justin and Hailey at this point." A third peron wrote, "This was so unnecessary and unneeded. Both best friends are still stuck in the past." 

One fan who has been following Gomez's actions online, wrote, "She is obsessed with the Biebers." Another calling out Gomez's comment as "cruel" wrote, "Selena commenting on a hailey bieber hate account video where they’re calling her a 'duck man' and 'mean girl' over an out of context video where she’s presenting a tv show, is actually crossing the line, thats not innocent and it’s disgusting and cruel." Gomez's comment appears to have been deleted since it garnered a lot of negative feedback.
