‘Secret Life of a Celebrity Surrogate’: Deranged couple Ava-Hayden will make you hate them, but love the movie

Are you sick of watching thriller movies that run high on mystery, yet are barely mysterious and the ones that you just couldn’t perceive to be frightening enough despite an unnecessary amount of violence and gore? Worry no more! To make your weekend better than the usual, Lifetime is premiering its upcoming movie ‘Secret Life of a Celebrity Surrogate’ that has a little bit of everything for its viewers.
The movie starts off by introducing us to Olivia (Carrie Wampler), a young lady, who is clearly struggling to navigate adult life. On an unfortunate day, she ends up getting dumped her “too cool to be seeing one woman” boyfriend and also gets laid off at work, only because she lost track of time while fooling around with her boyfriend and reported late to the office. Olivia tells herself enough is enough, and decides to start her life afresh. She’s in the need of money, obviously. Just when she almost gives up on life on seeing everything fall apart right before her eyes, one of her friends called Cassidy (Jordan Aurora Aquino) comes into her life like an angel with a job proposition. Cassidy tells Olivia that her clients are high-profile people, who would love to have a child, but can’t have one of their own. So, they are on the lookout for a surrogate, who would be willing to lend them a womb in exchange for an impressive amount of money.
Desperate to get her life back on track, Olivia finalized the deal and hops on a plane to get to California from New York, to help someone extend their family while giving herself enough time to cope with all the tragedies that befell her in the recent past. On reaching her employers’ residence, Olivia realizes that she was asked to be the mother to the ‘Dancing with the Stars’ star Ava (Brianne Davis) and her husband’s Hayden’s (Carl Beukes) child. They seem more than ecstatic to welcome Olivia into their home. Moved by their hospitality, Olivia doesn’t think twice before signing the NDA and starting the procedures for surrogacy.
For Olivia, who had thought bearing the child for nine whole months was the toughest task of her new job, the toxicity the couple shares starts to bother. When Olivia sees Ava and her husband constantly bicker, their flights grow from verbal to physical, and all of Hayden’s trysts with other women, she reconsiders her decision and even declares that the couple is a misfit to be parents. She also starts to feel like a prisoner under their watch, as they literally monitor every breath she takes and every step she walks while carrying their child. Olivia feels escaping the situations momentarily would help her and her unborn child a great deal. But, her plans fail miserably when she learns that Ava and her Hayden had decided to separate, thus wanting to get rid of the baby as well. And, when she looks back at a few things that she had been kept away from during her pregnancy, Olivia realizes that the couple had hidden a much bigger secret from her, which turns her entire life upside down in the blink of an eye.
The plotline for ‘Secret Life of a Celebrity Surrogate’ is pretty straightforward, but the movie thrives on the story and its execution. Throughout the movie, you know Olivia’s fate, as she knows it herself. Yet, you couldn’t stop thinking about the pain she’s put through because of the deranged couple. All the roles have allowed the actors to flex their acting muscles, who have presented the right amount of emotions and drama as demanded by their character, without going overboard. Even though the actors or the story don’t necessarily scare you, what one with power, influence, and money could do would definitely send chills right down your spine. Overall, ‘Secret Life of a Celebrity Surrogate’ is one such movie that is guaranteed to find a place for itself on the minds of its audience.
