Emmys 2020: 'Schitt's Creek' makes clean sweep in comedy category, fans say 'they deserve every single win'

As the world struggles with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic which brings a fresh supply of stress and anxiety every day, we all need an escape, and what's better than tuning in to a fully packed evening of entertainment? The 2020 virtual Emmys, which premiered on Sunday, September 20, 2020, beginning at 8 pm ET/ 5 pm PT, broadcasted on ABC.

Jimmy Kimmel hosted the award ceremony from the Staples Center in Los Angeles but without a live audience due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Producers of the show sent more than 130 cameras to nominees in 10 countries, a big technical undertaking for the virtual event.

As the biggest night on TV unfolds, many are rooting for 'Schitt’s Creek', which has broken the record for the most Emmys in a show's final season as it picked up seven awards in a row. So far, the insanely popular sitcom has won two Creative Arts Emmys as well as seven Emmy Awards. The show’s seventh win passed the 1993 sitcom 'Frasier', whose last season won six Emmys in 2004.

Many users took to Twitter to weigh in on the news. One person wrote on the micro-blogging website, "I am SCREAMING over here!!! Yaas!! 'Schitt's Creek' deserves every single Emmy they've won! Keep going! #Emmys2020 #SchittsCreek." Another user tweeted, "Watched @SchittsCreek from day 1, before people were willing to listen to me talk of its brilliance. So proud of all the #Emmys2020@danjlevy and his team have won. Gonna miss the show wildly."



 



 

Another user, echoing similar sentiments, tweeted, "I watched @SchittsCreek from season 1 episode 1 and loved it right up until the end!! Thanks to @cbc
for having the guts to stand behind it!! Congrats on all the #Emmys2020 wins." One person wrote, "@danjlevy Congrats to you and the entire cast and crew! We have been with you the entire time and have always known you were winners. Thank you for creating joy in these difficult times! #SchittsCreek #Emmys2020."



 



 

One seemingly excited user tweeted, "It’s official. 2020 is a Schitt show. #Emmys2020 #SchittsCreek." Another person wrote, "Holy Schitt. Such a genuine, hilarious, enduring show. Very well deserved wins tonight. #SchittsCreek #Emmys #Emmys2020." Another user, expressing happiness over the show's big win, wrote, "The entire cast of #SchittsCreek winning Emmys and the show itself sweeping all their awards tonight. We love to see it. It’s a little ray of joy that i needed. #Emmys2020."



 



 



 

Oprah Winfrey, Issa Rae, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jason Sudeikis and Sterling K Brown are just some of the celebrities who were part of the virtual ceremony. HER will be presenting a live performance during the "In Memoriam" segment.  Leading the way this year is HBO's 'Watchmen' with 26 nominations. 'Schitt's Creek' earned a total of 15 nods this year and has taken home seven awards so far. Other shows that took away a number of nods include 'Succession', 'Ozark', 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' and 'The Mandalorian'. 

'Schitt's Creek' is a television sitcom created by Dan and Eugene Levy. The series follows the trials and tribulations of the formerly wealthy Rose family when they are forced to relocate to Schitt's Creek, a small town they once billed as a joke. Catherine O’Hara won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series for her performance in Schitt’s Creek.  Eugene Levy took home the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series. 'Schitt's Creek' scored a hat-trick of awards as it picked up the Emmy for Outstanding Writing For A Comedy Series. 

Andrew Cividino and Dan Levy won 'Schitt's Creek' its fourth award in a row for Outstanding Directing For A Comedy Series. The sitcom picked up its fifth Emmy in a row with creator Dan Levy winning his third, for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Annie Murphy bagged the Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series, continuing 'Schitt’s Creek’s historic run. Its seventh win was in the Outstanding Comedy Series category.
