The December 12 episode of ‘Saturday Night Live’ featured actor Timothee Chalamet as the host and Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band as the musical guest. This was Chalamet’s debut on the late-night sketch-comedy show. The show returned from an almost month-long hiatus on December 5 with Jason Bateman as host and Morgan Wallen as the musical guest.

For the cold open on December 12, Kate McKinnon portrayed Dr Anthony Fauci and Heidi Gardner was Dr Deborah Birx. The duo appeared in the sketch as experts on CNN, with Beck Bennett’s Wolf Blitzer introducing the situation with the vaccine by saying, "It’s just like the PS5: Everybody wants it, nobody can get it and if you’re rich you already had it a month ago.” While discussing the vaccine, McKinnon’s Fauci said they were doing it “World War II style: we made England go in first, see what’s what and then we swoop in at the end and steal the spotlight.” Last season, Brad Pitt had played Fauci on the show.

During his monologue, Chalamet revealed that he’s not the first Chalamet to be on the show. He shared that his mother had done background work for the late-night sketch show and appeared alongside the late Chris Farley in a sketch. Chalamet was later joined by Pete Davidson who remembered his time growing up in Staten Island.

He also starred in various skits, one of them — A Rona family Christmas — was discussed on social media. The actor played a rebellious coronavirus molecule that drank Purell and praised New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, which made him a disappointment to his parents – played by Beck Bennett and Cecily Strong — who had spent the year traveling from China to Italy to Florida. They even said, “How great is Florida!?” and said that the only leader they recognized in their household was Donald Trump because “he introduced us to everyone he knows, even after he was infected.”

Here is what you can expect to see when the show returns.

What's special this time?

The December 19 episode will be hosted by former ‘SNL’ cast member Kristen Wiig and Dua Lipa is the musical guest. This will be Wiig’s fourth appearance as host on the show. She was a part of the cast from 2005 to 2012.

What to expect?

Wiig has proved her comedy skills time and again, both on ‘SNL’ and in movies. Fans would definitely like her to reprise some of her popular characters which she played on ‘SNL’. Wiig is also brilliant with impressions, so it would be interesting to see if she gets to impersonate a celebrity. The cold open of the show is mostly a spoof on the news of the week, so hawk-eyed fans need to keep a close watch on the headlines. Dua Lipa can be expected to belt out some of her hit songs to enthrall the viewers.

When will it air?

The new episode of ‘Saturday Night Live’ Season 46 will air on Saturday, December 19, at 11.30 pm ET on NBC.
