Who is Sarah Harding's mother? Singer said she'd ‘leave this world’ before her mum
Late British singer, model and actress Sarah Harding had once said that it’s comforting to know that she would “probably leave this world” before her mother. The ‘Girls Aloud’ singer breathed her last on Sunday, September 5, after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020. She was 39. Her mother, Marie Hardman, shared the devastating news on her late daughter’s Instagram account.
The devastated mother wrote, “It’s with deep heartbreak that today I’m sharing the news that my beautiful daughter Sarah has sadly passed away. Many of you will know of Sarah’s battle with cancer and that she fought so strongly from her diagnosis until her last day. She slipped away peacefully this morning.”

She added: “I’d like to thank everyone for their kind support over the past year. It meant the world to Sarah and it gave her great strength and comfort to know she was loved. I know she won’t want to be remembered for her fight against this terrible disease – she was a bright shining star and I hope that’s how she can be remembered instead. - Marie x.”
The deceased ‘Popstars: The Rivals’ star was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer in August last year. After the diagnosis, she also went through a mastectomy and chemotherapy. But did not shy away from sharing the reality of her sickness in her book -- ‘Hear Me Out’ -- which was released in March. In one of the excerpts of the book, Harding even wrote that she felt at peace knowing that she would probably die before her mother, whom she described as “her rock” during her cancer battle.
“Mum is in her late seventies now and she has become everything to me through this illness, especially since I've been staying with her. I know how hard this is on her too. I often worry about her, especially as she's gotten older. I can't bear the thought of anything happening to her,” she wrote in the book, before adding: “In a strange way it's comforting to know that I will probably leave this world before she does; at least then I won't have to go through the pain of losing her. The truth is, I can't live without her now, she cares for me and helps me because, at times, I am too weak to help myself.”
As the tragic news of Harding's death spread, tributes started to pour in for her. British actress Kimberley Gail Marsh tweeted, “I’m so very sorry to hear of the passing of Sarah Harding. What a beautiful girl and person she really was. I don’t claim to have known her very well but what I did know was how fun and kind she really was. My thoughts are with her family and friends at this time. Sleep tight x.” Japanese-British singer-songwriter, Rina Sawayama, wrote, “RIP Sarah Harding. my thoughts go out to her friends and family. 39 is way too young... hope they know what a huge impact her + Girls Aloud have had on a generation of artists including myself.”
