SAG Awards 2020: 'Parasite' creates history as the first foreign-language film to win best ensemble
'Parasite' makes history as they took home the award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture. Bong Joon Ho's Korean film is the first foreign-language film to receive honors from the Screen Actors Guild.
The 26th SAG Awards aired on Sunday night, and Parasite has officially entered this year's award season. The film won the award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture against 'The Irishman', 'Jojo Rabbit', 'Bombshell' and 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood'. Even prior to the film winning the award, the cast members were greeted with a standing ovation for the victory of their film.
Their win during the SAG Awards 2020 has them closer to winning an Oscar this year. Speaking via a translator, actor Kang-Ho Song thanked everyone sharing that the win is a great honor.
"Although the title is Parasite, the story is about coexistence and how we can all live together. But to be honored with the best ensemble award, maybe it occurred to me that we haven’t created such a bad movie," he shared. Continuing he said, "I am so honored to receive this award in front of so many actors I admire. I will never forget this beautiful night.”

Parasite is only the second foreign film to get an ensemble nomination in the SAG Awards. The first movie to be nominated was a 1997 Italian movie titled 'Life Is Beautiful'.
Prior to becoming one of the most talked-about films in the US, 'Parasite' made headlines South Korea as a blockbuster hit in 2019. The movie first premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. Taking to Twitter, fans cannot control their excitement as they claim the film deserved the win.
"Seeing foreign film like Parasite win for the first time has truly brought tears to my eyes," shared a fan. Adding to that another said, "I was hoping they’d get recognized for their work in Parasite! Well deserved! #SAGAwards #Parasite."
