Lewis Carroll's classic 'Alice in Wonderland' is getting another movie adaptation, this time by Netflix. The streaming giant is developing a musical adaptation of the classic fantasy story. Netflix tweeted, "looks into rabbit hole. Falls into a new Sabrina Carpenter musical! 'Alice', a modern musical reimagining of 'Alice in Wonderland', is in the works at Netflix. And yes, the 'Work It' lead, Broadway performer & singer will both star and produce."

Sabrina herself confirmed the news and tweeted saying, "We’re going to wonderland!!!! At last productions."

The upcoming musical will once again bring together the team behind Netflix's 'Work It' that also starred Sabrina Carpenter. The 21-year-old actress-singer will play the lead in the new 'Alice in Wonderland' film titled 'Alice', which will put a modern spin on the classic Lewis Carroll tale, according to Netflix. While very few details have been revealed, we know that it will be a musical that takes place at a festival called Wonderland, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Sabrina, who executive produced 'Work It', is also producing 'Alice' under her At Last Productions banner. She'll be teaming up with Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Dutton from Alloy Entertainment, the production company behind 'Work It' and the hit series 'You'. Ross Evans will write the screenplay.

The upcoming fantasy musical is the latest Netflix project for Carpenter, who also appeared in 'Tall Girl' before taking on the lead role in 'Work It'. The actress has previously starred in Disney Channel’s 'Girl Meets World', 2018 drama 'The Hate You Give', and the Broadway 'Mean Girls' musical from Tina Fey. Sabrina, who's signed to Hollywood Records, has released multiple hit singles over the years so it’s likely we’ll be hearing her sing in the new musical.

Netflix's 'Alice' is the latest in a long string of 'Alice in Wonderland' adaptations. The original story, published in 1865, was adapted into a movie in 2010 by director Tim Burton. Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland' starred starring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway. There was also a 2016 sequel by Burton titled 'Alice Through the Looking Glass'.

Apart from 'Alice', Sabrina has another music-based movie, titled 'Clouds' coming out on Disney+ on October 16, 2020.
