Rosie O'Donnell says pal Madonna is 'strong enough' to deal with trolls amid criticism over her appearance
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: While the internet ridicules Madonna's appearance, Rosie O'Donnell is not worried for her friend. After posting yet another daring throwback photo with her bare chest on display, the singer received harsh comments. However, despite the hurtful comments, friend O'Donnell claims the pop icon will continue to take the criticism in stride.
The most recent harassment came as trolls mocked Madonna's appearance, but O'Donnell claimed the singer has the ideal mindset for negativity. Madonna has been under the knife of criticism and ageism for more than once and she has spoken out against it without shying away. Following her appearance at the Grammy Awards in February, the 64-year-old Queen of Pop faced a barrage of online criticism.

'She knows who she is, what she wants'
In a recent exclusive interview, O’Donnell said, "You know, Madonna is one of the most famous women in the world and has been my entire lifetime. And she would get vitriol at her at the height of her fame." O'Donnell continued her chat with the outlet, "I remember we were doing ‘A League of Their Own’ and she had brown hair and we would be in an elevator and grown men, you know, would say to her, ‘I like you better as a blond.'" She added, "And she would look at them and go, ‘You know, f**k you.’ And I thought, good for her, man, good for you," as per Page Six.
O'Donnell affirmed Debi Mazar's opinion that Madonna is "beautiful" by saying that the singer has "never had a problem standing up for herself." She remarked, "She knows who she is, what she wants, what she wants to look like, what she wants to wear, what she wants to say. And I think she’s strong enough to weather whatever complaints people have about her now and for always." The singer of the hit song 'Like A Prayer' faced harsh criticism when she presented the Grammy Award in February, and 'Madge' responded in a big way.
"Everyone [on the internet] has an opinion these days and the only way really to survive, only the strong survive, is not to hear all the noise," said O'Donnell.
The actress, who has been candid about her battles with depression, also said she is currently in a good place. "I’m very much on top of it," she claimed. The actress concluded by saying, " And I have been since Columbine (school shooting), which is when I went on anti-depression and anxiety medication. And I’m very grateful that I have those medicines and that I take them religiously. I don’t ever skip a day. I’m on top of what I need in order to survive and thrive and be around for my family."
Madonna’s ‘new face’ at Grammys 2023
Many fans expressed their confusion about Madonna's appearance at the 2023 Grammys on social media. Fans remarked on the 64-year-old 'Vogue' singer's appearance, particularly her face when she walked the stage to introduce Kim Petras and Sam Smith for their 'Unholy' performance.
The singer of 'Material Girl' tied her hair back in braid ponytails that hung tightly down the sides of her face, giving her a neutral appearance when paired with her bleached eyebrows. In addition to a white collared shirt and a black tie, she accessorized with fishnet tights, purple platform heels, and Loree Rodkin jewelry. She wore a similar black blazer dress and a maxi skirt underneath.
For her "freaky" face, Madonna—who would embark on her "Celebration" tour later this year—has received numerous notes of concern and disapproval over the past 12 months. She might have had a facelift, a nose operation, and "pulled back" skin, among other procedures, per the plastic surgeons who previously spoke with Page Six.
Madonna responds to backlashes
Madonna criticized the internet's heated response to her "unrecognizable" face at the 2023 Grammys on social media. The 'Material Girl' said, "Instead of focusing on what I said in my speech which was about giving thanks for the fearlessness of artists like Sam and Kim- Many people chose to only talk about Close-up photos of me Taken with a long lens camera By a press photographer that Would distort anyone’s face!!"
"Once again I am caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in," the 'Vogue' singer posted on social media, "A world that refuses to celebrate women pass [sic] the age of 45 And feels the need to punish her If she continues to be strong-willed, hard-working, and adventurous."
She said, before paraphrasing Beyonce's 'Break My Soul,' "I have been degraded by the media since the beginning of my career but I understand that this is all a test and I am happy to do the trailblazing so that all the women behind me can have an easier time in the years to come."
The controversial singer said she anticipates "many more years of subversive behavior -pushing boundaries-Standing up to the patriarchy -and Most of all enjoying my life." Along with her unrepentant tirade, Madonna provided a behind-the-scenes glimpse at her bizarre behavior during the Grammys, which included posing with Cardi B, making crude gestures with Sam Smith, and flashing her lacey bra. She even gave songwriter Jozzy a tongue kiss.
Madonna flashes her bare chest on stage
The pop queen felt it was time to flaunt her endowments once more by posting a throwback photo that made her bare breast the primary focus. In the photo, the 'Like a Prayer' singer is seen standing and posing for pictures while flaunting her trim physique. It was reported that although the blue and gold pinstriped dress by Jean-Paul Gaultier hugged her figure, the chest was absent, as per The Mirror.
Instead, her breasts were visible because they were wedged in between the straps that crossed. She stood with her hands on her hopes and smiled wryly at the photographers, showing that she was happy with the stance. She wore her bleached blonde hair in ringlets and a navy cap to finish off her look.
