Rose McGowan calls Oprah Winfrey 'lizard', posts pic of host kissing Harvey Weinstein
Actress and activist Rose McGowan has gone all out to launch a scathing attack on America's darling Oprah Winfrey, accusing her of being 'fake'. In a strongly-worded tweet, McGowan lashed out at the talk show host for faking her support to the MeToo movement and accused her of "supporting a sick power structure for personal gain". More shockingly, she used the word 'lizard' towards the end of her tweet to describe the celebrity host.
"I am glad more are seeing the ugly truth of @Oprah. I wish she were real, but she isn’t. From being pals with Weinstein to abandoning & destroying Russell Simmon’s victims, a sick power structure for personal gain, she is as fake as they come. #lizard," McGowan tweeted, along with a photo which showed Oprah with disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. She is seen giving him a peck on the cheek in the photo, which has deeply upset many.

McGowan, who is a survivor of sexual assault, spoke out against Oprah in the wake of the controversy around her old video with Dolly Parton. The video sees a much younger Winfrey and Parton engaging in a candid heart-to-heart where the host asks the singer about possible work she has gotten done on her face and body to stay young. Things escalate really quickly when Parton evades the question at first and later admits she has gotten work done, but Winfrey springs her with a "huge depression" that the singer had gone through in her 40s. This has led social media to cancel Winfrey, dubbing her a "hater".
While the date of Oprah's photo with Weinstein was not clarified, the candid nature of the same prompted social media users to question Oprah's motive. Weinstein, who is currently in jail, has been accused of sexual assault by dozens of women in the industry, including McGowan herself who accused him of rape. Despite being found guilty on two felony counts, Weinstein had categorically denied having "nonconsensual sex" with the survivors.
Meanwhile, McGowan also referred to Oprah being almost involved in a 2020 documentary featuring entrepreneur and music executive Russell Simmons. He had been accused of sexual misconduct and rape by 20 women and he has maintained a comparatively low profile since the allegations surfaced.
In a January 2020 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Oprah stated, “I have decided that I will no longer be executive producer on the untitled Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering documentary, and it will not air on Apple TV+,” referring to the Russell Simmons feature. She also stated at the time, "I want it to be known that I unequivocally believe and support the women. Their stories deserve to be told and heard. In my opinion, there is more work to be done on the film to illuminate the full scope of what the victims endured, and it has become clear that the filmmakers and I are not aligned in that creative vision.”
A champion of women's rights and a vocal supporter of MeToo movement, Oprah being 'canceled' and shaded about alleged false support might inflict sizeable damage to her reputation.
