Robert Irwin, 16, has opened up about walking his sister Bindi down the aisle at her upcoming wedding to Chandler Powell.

Robert confessed that he was feeling quite nervous about stepping into his late father, Steve Irwin's, shoes and walking his sister down the aisle. The beloved Irwin passed away in 2006 when he was just 44 years old after he got pierced in the chest by a stingray while filming a wildlife documentary.

Robert, a wildlife photographer, shared that it "meant everything" when Bindi asked him to accompany her down the aisle - a role that is traditionally given to the father of the bride, Access Hollywood reports. While turning to his sister, Robert shared, "It was just so sweet of you to think of me to do that... I'm nervous, I'm not going to lie. There's a lot of pressure!"

Bindi had announced her engagement to her childhood sweetheart on her 21st birthday on July 24 last year.

"But I love Bindi and Chandler so much and together I know they'll achieve so much," he continued. In the interview, Bindi confirmed that she and Chandler were planning to get married at the Australia Zoo later this year. When Bindi was asked as to what color scheme she had chosen for the ceremony, she shared that she "will probably stick to earth tones".

She also joked that she would sport a khaki-colored dress in order to match with the signature Australia zoo uniform. We had previously reported that Bindi's fiance Chandler, 23, is hoping to be able to buy a stake in the Australia Zoo post starting work at the zoo in 2018.

Powell is very keen to help run the family business and wants to "officially be a part of the Irwin brand", New Idea reports. A source had added, "He's been working really hard for Terri [Irwin] to show how committed he is and even gave up his career to help the business and family."

"He and Bindi are getting married soon, so he thinks it's important to have everything sorted before the big day," the source continued.
