Rihanna's new 'R9' album could be around the corner and here are five reasons you should be excited
Rihanna's upcoming ninth studio album, currently being called 'R9' by fans (and Rihanna herself) might be dropping very soon. It has been four years since she released her record-crushing eighth studio album, 'Anti', and many impatient members of the Rihanna Navy are hungry for more.
Fans of Queen RiRi are currently getting hyped up about her latest record release, thanks to some dedicated Internet sleuthing and a few hints that have surfaced on social media in the recent past. Here are five clues pertaining to 'R9' listed below:
A Beautiful Prediction
Over a year ago, Rihanna sparked a lot of interest from her devoted army of fans when the singer responded to a user who had requested an album release date while commenting on her Fenty Beauty Instagram post in December 2018. The singer responded saying that the album would be dropping in 2019, which was the first sign of bigger things to come for her fans.
Work, Work, Work (x2)
RiRi then posted a short video clip on social media a month later in January 2019, that showed her actually doing studio work on the new album, 'R9'. This was even more concrete proof that an album would be released sometime that year, and predictably, fans were extremely thrilled on hearing the good news.
Actual Song Titles (Probably)
Some eagle-eyed Internet detectives have noticed that over 20 song titles have been registered to either Rihanna or Robyn R. Fenty (her birth name) on music copyright sites like BMI and ASCAP. While some of these track names are likely to be shelved, since Rihanna mentioned that 'R9' will be reggae-influenced, there's a large possibility that some of these tracks could end up on the 'R9' album.
The 'Jump Around' Pup
This was the most telling clue that the new project was ready — Rihanna herself recently teased her 'R9' album on Instagram a few days ago. She posted a video of an adorable puppy bopping its head and dancing as the classic track 'Jump Around' by House of Pain played. Rihanna captioned the post — "Update: me listening to R9 by myself and refusing to release it." Naturally, album release rumors went into overdrive shortly after the post.
DefJam Diamond Post
As recently as December 26, DefJam Records tweeted a cryptic post that showed Rihanna throwing up a diamond sign with her fingers, with no caption — except for a diamond emoji. Fans have argued that it's an old photo from her book, but the fact that Def Jam handles her album distribution (RiRi signed with Roc Nation in 2014) only served to fan the flames of the 'R9' album rumors even more.
So there you have it! Five pretty substantial clues that we can expect Rihanna's new 'R9' album to drop sooner rather than later! Until then, just remember, nothing is promised.
