NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: 'The Real Housewives of New York City' alum Sonja Morgan has decided to put her stunning Upper East Side property up for auction next month. Fans rejoice as they believe Sonja has been squandering her money up to this point by attempting to maintain the home.

In collaboration with seasoned luxury broker Adam Modlin of the Modlin Group, Concierge Auctions will conduct an online sale of the five-story residence located at 162 E. 63rd St. on May 29th. The New York Post reported that there is no minimum, and the sale begins on May 15th.

Paulina Kimbel, vice president of business development at Concierge Auctions, states that starting bids should fall between $1.75 million and $3.75 million. The home, renowned for having a hidden elevator that frequently appeared in Bravo's popular 'RHONY' series, has been on and off the market since 2013 when it was listed for $9.95 million. It was advertised at $7.5 million until last week.

Sonja persevered through ups and downs, even declaring bankruptcy in 2010. According to court documents at the time, she had $13.5 million in assets and $19.8 million in debt.

After the bankruptcy case was resolved in 2015, Sonja was permitted to keep the house, and she finally decided to stay there. Last year, Sonja reduced the price of the magnificent home to $7.5 million, after relisting it in 2022 for $8.75 million.

Sonja told Page Six in December of last year that even though she had moved out of the townhouse, her tenant had moved out at the beginning of the epidemic, so she was compelled to move back in. Throughout the years, as Sonja refurbished it, rented it out, and put it on and off the market, the house itself became a television celebrity.

In addition to luxurious features like personalized mosaic flooring in the foyer, the house boasts a sauna, a gym, and a library. According to a previous listing, Sonja's ex-husband, as well as his father, grandpa, and great-grandfather, JP Morgan, were all "noted yachtsmen and Commodores of the New York Yacht Club," and their interests are reflected in the two spacious master bathrooms featuring nautical themes.

Additional design elements include Venetian plastered walls, marble flooring, hand-painted silk wallpaper, and silk and cedar-lined closets with mahogany drawers.

On Reddit, fans reacted to the news, with one saying, "It's about time for her to let it go. She was clinging on to such a determent to herself all these years. She probably made it work with her Bravo money but now that's been slashed so she's gotta do what she's gotta do." Another user chimed in, "getting rid of the townhouse could be very freeing for Sonjarita."

One fan noted, "The amount of money she’s wasted over the years keeping that townhouse is crazy. She should have done this 10+ years ago. Wasted away all her lucrative Bravo checks to this dumpsterfire."

Another fan suggested, "Bravo should’ve done a few episode special of Sonja fixing the place up to sell/auction, but I don’t think Sonja had the money to upgrade it to be worth the money she wants for it. Bravo!! You missed out!! Imagine Sonja with the handymen knocking down walls or fixing plumbing!"

One fan wished, "I hope this goes through so she can move on. It is emotional baggage for her." Another fan added, "She held onto it for far too long, and it hasn't been good for her mental state and has held her back from growing and moving on. If she actually goes through with this, I cannot even imagine the emotional breakdown that follows. For her sake though, I hope she sees it through."
