BET Hip Hop Awards 2020 slammed for 'sh***y' Pop Smoke tribute, but fans call Quavo's homage 'the best thing'
Pop Smoke, who was murdered in February after getting shot twice at his LA pad, posthumously won the Best New Hip-Hop Artist award at the BET Hip Hop Awards 2020 and rapper Quavo from the Migos group hit the stage to give a special tribute to the late rapper.
While paying homage to the late collaborator, Quavo performed on their two songs namely ‘Shake the Room’ and ‘Aim for the Moon.’ According to Billboard, Quavo performed from a futuristic-looking white room, as Pop Smoke's own verses and choruses were displayed outside the room’s window. Quavo looked dapper in a jean jacket which read ‘Shoot for the Stars’ on the front and ‘Aim for the Moon’ on the back referring to Pop Smoke’s debut studio album, ‘Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon.’
The rapper was showered with praises for his special performance on Twitter. One user said, “@QuavoStuntin in the damn deathstar performing, that s**t lit! #HipHopAwards” Another said, “Quavo was honestly the perfect person to do the pop smoke tribute REST IN PEACE Pop Smoke #HipHopAwards” One individual tweeted, “Quavo’s tribute to Pop Smoke was the best thing so far. #HipHopAwards” One fan added, “It’s so sad seeing quavo performing shake the room & pop smoke ain’t there”

Quavo might have got tremendous support from the Internet, however, there were many social media users who lashed out at BET Hip Hop Awards for not giving a proper tribute to late Pop Smoke. One individual tweeted, “ @BET yall need to redo Pop Smoke tribute. It should have been longer! #HipHopAwards” One said, “Yall shoulda had Fivio, Lil Tjay, and/or A Boogie do Pop Smoke's tribute bruh... #HipHopAwards” Another added, “Who Else Thinks They Should Have Had All The Brooklyn Drill Rappers On The Pop Smoke Tribute Tho #HipHopAwards #BET” One person got furious and stated, “What the heck was the budget for this show? Only 2 awards and 2-3 songs for Pop Smoke #HipHopAwards” Another posted, “I feel like they could’ve given Pop Smoke a better tribute than this. It wasn’t even on brand. But ok. #HipHopAwards”
