'Project Runway': Sergio doesn't want to make fitted clothes for pregnant women, viewers call him the 'worst'

Sergio said a pregnant woman should be comfortable in what she is wearing and therefore, he doesn't want to make fitted clothes for them

Sergio Guadarrama of 'Project Runway' was once again the center of attention and this time it was his comment on maternity wear that left everyone surprised.

Judges Elaine Welteroth, Nina Garcia, Karlie Kloss, Brandon Maxwell and guest judge Lindsey Vonn, a former World Cup alpine ski racer, inquired about his thoughts on the silhouette he had on Foluke Akinradewo, a volleyball player. To this Sergio said he didn't want to put something 'fitted' on Foluke because she was pregnant and during pregnancy, comfort is what matters. However, Elaine thought he could have accentuated her baby bump because that would have made a bolder statement. But Sergio was happy he delivered what his client asked for and added that she looked happy on the runway wearing that dress.

Interestingly, the sleeves that Sergio finally went for wasn't the one he was planning initially. Mentor Chrisitan Siriano had suggested he experiment with the sleeves to elevate the overall look. Even though the Texas-born talent was confident of his first draft of the design, which had no sleeves, he went with Christian's advice. The result of which was loved by most.

Sergio has easily been one of the top contenders of the Bravo show but there have been quite a few hits and misses along the way. He is an exceptional craftsman with a sound technical knowledge of the craft but fans have not been willing to look past his arrogance and the way he interacts with people around him. They have expressed annoyance over his maternity wear comment on social media.

"Ummm I'm sorry, Sergio, but you know nothing about women and what they want. Especially pregnant women. Fitted is always better than looking like a tent - which is a very old way of thinking about maternity. #ProjectRunway," a viewer shared, while another wrote: "The best thing about Sergio's dress was that he didn't have his fake deep political message. Apparently he just doesn't like pregnant women. #ProjectRunway."

"Right! The way he said, 'I would NEVER put a pregnant woman in something fitted' he is the worst. Like pregnant women should be ashamed of their bodies," a fan wrote. "Sergio, ugh. I LOVED my baby bump and loved wearing tight dresses when I was pregnant. #ProjectRunway," another tweeted. "It almost seems like Sergio is appalled by any pregnant woman wanting to show off her bump.... What an ass! #ProjectRunway," a viewer posted.
