Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting their second child as announced by the couple through a photoshoot. The happy news comes after Meghan revealed late last year that she suffered a miscarriage. The unborn baby will be the couple's second child. Their first child, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, was born on May 6, 2019, in London.

Prince Harry's and Meghan Markle's second child will become the eighth in line of succession to the British throne, after their elder brother. The couple did not announce an expected date of birth or where the birth might happen.

According to The Daily Mail, while Harry is expected to travel to the United Kingdom to see his family, Meghan is unlikely to join for "personal and practical" reasons. The family first moved to Canada in November 2019, following which they moved to Montecito, California, where they have bought a $14.7 million estate.

According to the publication, if the child is born in the United States, they will be entitled to American citizenship as an automatic right as per the 14th Ammendment. Additionally, the child will also be able to apply for dual citizenship, with them automatically becoming a British citizen through Prince Harry's nationality. According to sources, it is unclear when the new baby will meet their grandfather Charles, or great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. It is unclear whether Harry or Markle will give their second child a royal title as they opted out for baby Archie.

The couple announced their pregnancy with the second child this year on Valentine's Day, exactly 37 years after Harry's mother Princess Diana had announced that she was pregnant with Harry. The gender of the baby has not been revealed.

Last year, Meghan penned an op-ed for The New York Times, where she described her "unbearable grief" after she suffered a miscarriage. She described that she was holding Archie, and felt a "sharp cramp" after changing his diaper. She wrote, "I dropped to the floor with him in my arms, humming a lullaby to keep us both calm, the cheerful tune a stark contrast to my sense that something was not right."

She then continued that she knew that she was losing her child, writing, "Hours later, I lay in a hospital bed, holding my husband’s hand. I felt the clamminess of his palm and kissed his knuckles, wet from both our tears. Staring at the cold white walls, my eyes glazed over. I tried to imagine how we’d heal."

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's announcement of their second child has been welcomed. A palace spokesman reportedly said that Harry's royal family members are excited by the news of the couple's new child, and said, "Her Majesty, [the] Duke of Edinburgh, [the] Prince of Wales and the entire family are delighted and wish them well," referring to Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip and Prince Charles.
