Swedish YouTuber Felix "PewDiePie" Kjellberg and his wife Marzia "MarziaPie" Kjellberg along with their two dogs Edgar and Maya moved to Japan in 2022. They got married in 2019 after dating for eight years. They first met in 2011 and have been together for about 12 years and have been married for four years.

The Kjellbergs had completed the majority of the tasks on their moving-in checklist after reaching Japan, but one posed some challenges -- establishing an account at one of the nearby banks.

PewDiePie failed twice to open a bank account

As shown in his vlog, PewDiePie dressed up for his personal bank appointment. For the newcomer to Japan, the adulting task was a major thing, especially as it was a prerequisite for receiving a visa for permanent residence. He stated, “Everyone says the bank account is the hardest part of the Japanese residency.”

PewDiePie had problems right away at the first bank he went to since nobody there spoke English. He said that although he had studied the language extensively, he was not proficient enough to do the assignment.

His second effort wasn't any better. As they had been in the nation for less than six months at this point, the bank requested a copy of his company's certificate. Unfortunately, the YouTuber had to make a third attempt in order to obtain the document.

‘Really easy’

Later that day, PewDiePie and Marzia decided against continuing their search for a bank and instead went shopping. A week later, he happily informed his followers in a new video that they had successfully opened a Japanese bank account.

The online sensation claimed that the procedure had been "really simple," especially because they had all the necessary documents on hand for the appointment.

The online couple's first few days in Tokyo came as a great shock because they are still working on their conversational Japanese.

“First it was like ‘We made it to Japan!’ ‘Oh, we’re in Japan?' We don’t speak the language. Did we just move to another country where we don’t speak the language, half across the globe, in our 30s, with no real goal or reason? Yeah, I guess we did,” he said.
