The 46th People’s Choice Awards is currently taking place at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. The event that recognizes people for the entertainment industry has so far handed out awards under various categories. One of the most prestigious People’s Choice Awards, People’s Icon of 2020 was given to singer and actress Jennifer Lopez.

JLo was congratulated by many stars, including Nicole Kidman and Kerry Washington, on being honored with the all-around award. Even her two sons virtually congratulated their ever-talented mother. And when it was her turn to deliver a speech as the recipient of the highest award, JLo got a tad bit emotional.

She spoke about the dire circumstances we had to witness in 2020 and how it impacted lives. JLo said the global pandemic and its consequences made her realize the value of relationships and the importance of staying close to your loved ones.

The ‘Maid in Manhattan’ also noted that “record sales” and “box office records” don’t matter anymore as her purpose in life is to reach out to as many fans as she can and inspire them with her work. She thanked her family for being by her side during the toughest of times.

The singer also used the platform to talk about the treatment and struggle of people of color within the entertainment industry, as she expressed that as a Latina and woman, she needed to work twice as hard to be what she is. JLo concluded her speech with a special message to her fans in Spanish as the virtual crowd broke into cheers.

Meanwhile, people who have been commenting about the award ceremony on Twitter were of the opinion that JLo’s speech was boring and cringe-worthy. One tweeted, "Jennifer Lopez gave the most longest, boring, speech, and took me back to the time where I was mad at her because she was on a TV show, the commercial, doing music, she deserves all the accolades and I do love her, but STOP TALKING! #PeoplesChoiceAwards."

Another added, "my mom is watching the PCAs and idk if I’m just completely detached from celebrity worship now but I find it so strange that Jennifer Lopez is getting a lifetime award or something and she’s just going on and on about her and not even mentioning this year or the actual heroes." One said, "Being such fake news, she does not care @JenniferLopez if a joke she can not act, she can not even cry."
