The first episode of ‘Party of Five’ touched upon several relevant issues, besides introducing the characters who center the series. We saw the impact of immigration laws on the lives of the Acostas, who struggled for years to achieve identities of their own and survive in a foreign nation.

The second episode ‘Margin of Error’, however, is more about the Acosta family's more private issues. While Gloria and Javier’s deportation has shifted the responsibility onto the children, the consequence of some of the latter's actions sees trouble brewing.

In Episode 1, Beto hires Venessa to work at the restaurant only because she was cute, and hoping he would have a chance with her. During her informal interview, Venessa even offers to help Beto with his academics, leading him on.

Emilio has never hidden his fondness for women and Venessa uses the opportunity to seduce her boss. With her rather sweet talk about Emilio’s sacrifices for his family, she manages to get into his pants. But Emilio is unaware of Beto’s interest in Venessa.

The Acosta siblings have been put through a lot since their parents’ deportation. They are seen disagreeing over the slightest of issues. Although each has a reason to live independently, they have no choice but to stick together for the sake of the family or at least Rafael.

Now that we can predict the aftermath of Emilio and Venessa’s little fling, we can’t help but wonder how Beto is going to cope with his brother’s behavior. The siblings, as it is, are irked since Emilio tries to play the patriarch. Now, they have another reason to dislike him.

This also makes us think about the tough spot Emilio is put in. It isn’t going to go so well with Beto when he learns about his brother’s relationship with his new crush. But, as the in-charge of the restaurant, Emilio looks at Venessa as an employee before anything else and considering their financial downfall, he couldn’t let another misadventure of his tamper the family business.
