Why did Paris Jackson and Gabriel Glenn split? Inside her 'deepest heartbreak'
When Paris Jackson and her boyfriend of over two years, Gabriel Glenn, called it quits in 2020, it was a shocker for many. Hints of cracks in the couple's relationship became obvious in the finale of the couple's Facebook Watch series 'Unfiltered: Paris Jackson and Gabriel Glenn' in August 2020.

Gabriel was Paris' 'deepest heartbreak'
Shortly after Gabriel and she split, Paris released her solo album in November 2020. Speaking about the same, although she didn't take names, Paris did confess to Willow that "heartbreak" was a motivating factor behind the album. "It was the deepest heartbreak I ever experienced. But also it was one of the most powerful rebirths I've ever had in finding my voice and finding my sound and embracing being a musician," she told Willow. "I was scared to do that for a long time. Finally, I'm just like, this is who I am, I'm a musician."
Paris and Gabriel first met in April 2018. They saw each other the first time when Paris saw Gabriel perform at Hollywood's Rainbow Bar & Grill. In the premiere episode of their Facebook Watch series, Paris had revealed, "We immediately just vibed," she said. "We spent three days straight together. Within a week, I was living in his van." As for Gabriel, he shared in the episode: "I know when she was walking up that my body was saying, 'Be cool' but my brain was saying, 'Just run, just run.'" He then recalled: "We went from the Rainbow to an after party, and that's where I saw her playing an unplugged guitar. It felt very intimate. I knew I was walking towards a head over heels fall." And from that point on, "it was pretty much on" between them, Paris added in the episode.
Why did Paris and Gabriel split?
Unfortunately, things weren't the same by the time the couple arrived at the finale. Paris had told viewers how their clashing zodiac signs were becoming a problem for their romance. “A big thing for Aries is we are very impatient, depending on what it is," Paris said. "The people that we love and things that we care about, we have the patience of a saint. But it’s a very interesting dynamic. We both have double stubborn energy. I’ve always known I was stubborn, and I knew that he was stubborn because he’s a Taurus."
The same episode also saw Paris admit she "never thought" she would "end up with a dude." Paris said, "I thought I'd end up marrying a chick," and revealed: "I've dated more women than men." She also claimed, "I wouldn't consider myself bisexual because I've dated more than just men and women. It has nothing to do with what's in your pants. It has nothing to do with what your XY chromosome makeup is, it's literally just what are you like as a person."
But that said, Paris considered Gabriel her "soulmate" and not necessarily in the romantic sense of the term. "I don’t think soulmates are specifically just romantic partners," she explained in the episode. "In one life Gabe was probably my daughter. And in another life, he was probably my grandpa and then in another life he was probably my worst enemy." Towards the end of the episode, Gabriel told the camera: "I think we said when we first got together, even if we didn't work out as a couple, we always would want to be in a band together. Our music was one thing we wanted to hold on to no matter what."
And speaking about maintaining a close relationship even if they break up, Paris added: "I don't know what's going to happen in the future. But obviously there's someone that I strive to be. I want to grow, and I want to become a better person, a better musician ... but I can't do this without Gabe. Gabe showed me love does exist, not just in the movies, and it's not as pretty as it looks in the movies — it can get ugly and it can be more beautiful than described in the movies and it is possible. He makes me not feel as alone. He's had an impact on me and my life and my heart in ways that I cannot even describe. I can't see my life without him."
'The relationship just ran its course'
When TMZ reported the news of their break up, the outlet quoted sources close to Paris, saying her split with Gabriel was "amicable," adding that "the relationship just ran its course and it was something that just needed to happen." An insider had also told E! News at the time that the romantic part of the couple's relationship had been "on and off for a while." Regardless, the source assured "Paris is doing okay," adding, "She's working on herself." The singer has since been also working on her music, as she told Willow in the recent chat how "music has always been there" to help her through the dark times.
Paris, who also spoke to Willow about growing up in front of the media and suicidal thoughts that both have battled and been able to bond over. She however reflected that Gabriel "was the deepest I ever loved someone, it was the most intense I've felt so far and the most intense betrayal I felt so far and experienced." She declared: "It's definitely closed me off to that, I'm very careful with who I spend time with now and very guarded and trying to protect myself."
