Kenneth Branagh is finally as OSCAR winner! The actor-turned-filmmaker won the Oscar for the Best Original Screenplay for the movie ‘Belfast’ starring Jamie Dornan in the lead. The movie focuses on the life of a working-class family and their young son's childhood during the tumult of the late 1960s in the Northern Ireland capital.

This was Branagh’s eighth Oscar nomination and first, win at the event. The movie edged out nominees such as ‘Don’t Look Up’, ‘King Richard’, ‘Licorice Pizza’, and ‘The Worst Person in the World’ to win the accolade. ‘Belfast’ was touted as the frontrunner in the aforementioned category and didn’t come as a surprise when Branagh went up to the stage to pick the trophy. He is also nominated for Best Picture. His speech was brief, but rousing, and he thanked everyone who supported him during the movie.

The movie’s script about a working-class family in 1970s Northern Ireland is based in part on his own youth in Belfast. With this nomination, Branagh became the first person to get nominated in seven different categories throughout his career. The first of Branagh's Shakespeare film adaptations, 'Henry V' in 1989, earned him his first two Oscar nominations for Best Director and Best Actor. 'Swan Song' was nominated for Best Live Action Short Film a few years later. He was then nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay in 1996 for his adaptation of 'Hamlet'. A nomination for Best Supporting Actor in My Week with Marilyn brought him back into the Oscar race one more time in 2011.
