Olivia Rodrigo was an underdog until she dropped her debut single ‘Drivers License’ in January 2021, and then there was no looking back. After tasting success, the young and versatile crooner is now aiming to take her name to new heights with her debut studio album called ‘Sour’.

The ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ star announced her debut effort on her official Instagram account on April 13, 2021, with a unique cover art along with the full tracklist which, of course, includes her hit single ‘Drivers License’ and the recently released ‘Déjà vu.’  The 18-year-old crooner had been teasing about her first album for the last few months with a lot of cryptic posts with an intention to create the hype.

Release date

Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Sour’ will hit the Internet on May 21, 2021, via Geffen Records.

Concept

Rodrigo’s debut single ‘Drivers License’ roared at the charts and she poured her heart out in this melodious R&B number which instantly clicked with the listeners. And, looking at the tracklist, it seems ‘Sour’ will treat music lovers with a lot of songs revolving around the concept of love, heartbreaks, jealousy, and memories.

The teen sensation had spilled the beans about her album in an earlier interview with Nylon in February 2021. While talking about her artistic vision for her first album, she said, “I want it to be super versatile. My dream is to have it be an intersection between mainstream pop, folk music, and alternative rock. I love the songwriting and the lyricism and the melodies of folk music. I love the tonality of alt-rock. Obviously, I’m obsessed with pop and pop artists. So I’m going to try and take all of my sort of influences and make something that I like.” She added, “I actually feel a lot more confident in my writing abilities since ‘Drivers License’ came out.”

Tracklist

Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Sour’ will be stacked with 11 tracks. As mentioned earlier, songs namely ‘Drivers License’ and ‘Déjà Vu have already been released. Speaking about her songs, she had earlier said, as reported by website Genius, “I’m so happy with the album, which I was not expecting. I was expecting me to listen to it and be like, “Uhhh,” like everything that I did wrong. I truly feel like it’s the best that I can do right now. I wrote one song when I was sixteen, and one song when I was eighteen, but most of them I wrote when I was seventeen. It’s very much like a slice of my life in that moment.”  Speaking of songs, here’s how the tracklist of ‘Sour’ looks like:

‘Brutal’
‘Traitor’
‘Drivers License’
‘1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back’
‘Deja Vu'
‘Good 4 U’
‘Enough for You’
‘Happier’
‘Jealousy, Jealousy’
‘Favorite Crime’
‘Hope Ur Ok’
