Offset feeds voters in Atlanta, fans praise rapper's move, say 'this is how celebrities can make a difference'
Offset, a member of three-member rap group Migos, ran into a few issues on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, as he tried to feed people who were waiting in long voting lines in Georgia. The Atlanta native teamed up with The Lincoln Project to provide free food to those who were in line to cast their votes. Also, after casting his vote, Offset was scheduled to appear at Ficketts Elementary School and William Walker Recreation Center to take photos with fans and give out free food from popular eatery Slutty Vegan. The Lincoln Project's official Twitter page informed users about this by tweeting, "Want to meet Offset? Well, he’s at Ficketts Elementary today at 2:30p and William Walker Rec Center at 3:30p — both in Atlanta, GA. Take some selfies. Vote. Oh, and get some free Slutty Vegan."

However, according to The Lincoln Project's official Twitter page, the rapper was threatened by Gwinnett County Government officials. The Lincoln Project tweeted, "We’ve been working in Georgia with Offset to feed Gwinnett's voters in those unnecessarily long lines, but instead of a welcome he was threatened by @gwinnettgov. This is what voter intimidation and discrimination looks like." Offset himself tweeted about it saying, "@gwinnetgov I was just trying to show some love to the Nawf with @NateJNesbitt on election day smh we got it done anyway & supported a lot of people."

Reacting to the news, a Twitter user wrote, "My dad saw that Ossoff was down in GA and said 'aw c’mon Offset!'" while another, praising Offset, said, "THIS is how celebrities can make a difference and have influence. I don’t need certain ppl who are not well well educated on the issues speaking on them, but this...this is simple AND effective." A different user, calling Offset's appearance at voting booths a great move, said, "Great way to get young voters to the polls. Atlanta has a deep connection with its music community across all genres," while another, being critical about it, wrote, "Which rapper is going to be used for a political agenda tomorrow?"

The Lincoln Project is an American political action committee formed in late 2019 by a number of former Republicans. The goal of the committee is to prevent the re-election of incumbent President Donald Trump in the 2020 election and defeat all Republicans in close races running for re-election in the United States Senate.
